Taking Care of Our heart, liver, lungs and Kidney: Our Health Matters! –Final Part.

Image
Does our food sometimes comes too easily? In the first part of this blog, I have argued that our health is under attack, partly because of the way in which we live our lives, provide our foods, and our overindulgence, compared to our predecessors. In concluding this blog, I want to have a look at some of the key factors involved in this situation, and on the need for us to take personal and collective responsibility for improving it. The food processors and the fast food chains can argue that they do not force the consumer to eat their unhealthy foods, whether it is unhealthy because of the proportion of some of its contents or because of the portions served and eaten. However, although they might not be breaking any laws in processing and selling their foods the way they do, it remains the fact that their method of manufacturing, marketing and selling it is designed to entice the consumer to come back for more, by 'conditioning' them with ingredients such as salt and

Taking Care of Our heart, liver, lungs and Kidney: Our Health Matters - Part1

Image
Let us make our Health Our Priority! Our health is under constant attack, with our key organs, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys - and some would say, our brain function - being under increasing attack. In general, it seems to be the case that many, if not most of us are rather complacent and neglectful of the need to give more priority to safeguarding our health from harm.  This is quite surprising, when you realise that, for those of us who have access to the media and social networking websites, there is a constant barrage of doom and gloom about the increase in the various health problems which are affecting pretty much all nations. These include cancers, which various charities in Britain, eg, have been promising for more than 50 years that they would beat, if only the public donate more money to them. Diabetes is on the rise, and so are Alzheimer and Senile dementia, which affect and destroy people's memories and ability to carry out mental, self-care and social funct

Managing the National Economy: Costly Trial and Error!

Image
Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, has just presented the latest of his mini-budget to the British people. It is not welcoming news for any sector of the British population, because, the Chancellor has, in effect, told them that the economic situation confronting them and the nation is still bad and is likely to get worse. Although it is clear that the prescribed medication is not proving effective, Mr Osborne has told the nation that he has no alternative but to inflict more economic pain on them; especially the poor and less economically able. The country must save more money to cut its deficit and stop the public sector from having to borrow more money than was anticipated.  He has decided to cut the benefits of, as usual, the less economically enfranchised, such as those on Disability Allowance - the presumption has been and still is, and with some justification, that many people on disability benefit are quite capable of working; probably if only t

Britain and the EU: Brexit and Bric it, or Stay Put and Shore it up?

Image
Does Britain knows which direction she should take? Britain is currently hotly contemplating  whether to leave the European Union and go her own way in establishing bilateral trade and other arrangements with her then - if she were to leave -  erstwhile European Union partners, or remain in the EU and campaign for the removal of EU laws, regulations and other arrangements which she, Britain, considers to be inimical to her own self-interests and freedom to govern the country as a sovereign state. Now, it seems to me that Britain, or rather, sections of British society, have always resented the European Union, while the country, as a whole, appears to have largely considered it as somewhat of an 'irrelevance' to their daily lives and concerns.  Whenever much ado is made about Britain's membership of the EU, it tends to when it is instigated by the British Government or a prominent or not so prominent politician, such as, eg, Nigel Farage, whose aim is to destroy the E

Is Germany and Europe Moving to the Right?

Image
Can Chancellor Merkel Navigate SS Germany to calm waters? The recent regional elections in Germany has resulted in gains for the right and a relative loss of electoral support for the German Government, led by Angela Merkel's CDU. This has caused some shock to the system, as well as some fear amongst Germans - and other Europeans - and, indeed, the migrants and refugees who are in or were hoping to get to Germany. So the Christian Democrats Union has lost some support, while the anti-refugee Alternative for Germany party has gained between 10-25 per cent of the electoral votes. Yes, it is a matter of concern, and one which the German Government need to heed, with a view to ascertaining why the Right is rising and how to counter it, but it is probably far from being the crisis situation which the popular media would want to hype it up into being. With hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants arriving in and/or are at the borders of various European countries, wait

Female Genital Mutilation (Abuse) or Why Are Men So Contemptuous of Women?

Image
Bridge North, UK. Having a Different Perspective It is the case that some societies and countries – probably mainly Islamic ones, if I am not mistaken – have a barbaric practice of torturing their females by requiring their young girls to submit to having parts of their genitals cut off and then stitching up most of their vulva.  As this serves no medical purpose, it appears that the only purpose is that of the lustful males ensuring that the women  in their societies do not have sex before they are married, and that they, the men, can forcefully plunder their wives in consummating their marriage.  Men, in these societies, it would appear,  seem to  see women – I must try to avoid saying ‘their women’, in case I inadvertently ‘legitimise’ this  chauvinistic perception and practice -  as objects for them to do things to, instead of as comely and independent beings with whom to share sexual pleasure with. It is this anachronistic and women-hating ideology which confines – I am
