A THOUGHT FOR NOW - IS THE PLEASURE OF THE RICH BETTER THAN THAT OF THE POOR?

Image
Is the pleasure of a wealth person qualitatively better than that of a poor or less well-off person? Essentially, as humans, we are able to derive pleasure from the same kinds of things, even if there are some dissimilarity between them. Take the basics, for example, such as food, clothing, shelter, warmth, leisure and knowledge. I believe that I am correct in saying we all derive pleasure from eating food, drinking water and other beverages, learning about new things and places, being kept warm when we are cold, having a comfortable place in which to live, wearing nice clothes, and having fun. While we humans will get pleasure from the above, there could be some qualitative differences which are due to things like personal, cultural – in terms of customs, language, traditions, etc – and class factors. On the one hand, saying pleasure is pleasure, might indeed be a truism, with the pleasure not necessarily being heightened, because, say, it was der

LEWIS HAMILTON'S GREAT QUOTE

Image
The following is a quote from Lewis Hamilton, I say in an article by Paul Weaver, in the British newspaper, The Guardian: “There’s not a day goes by that I regret living it. You never know when is your last day, so the most important thing is to enjoy and embrace whatever opportunity you have ahead of you. Life’s too short to not be happy and the things I do make me happy. Every day I want to continue what I do and drive the way I drive. And if I change one person’s perception I think that will be a success.” As you can see from the quote, it is a what I would call both great and axiomatic. It shows that Hamilton, even though he has become so elevated, is acutely in touch with his basic humanity, which is embodied in the destiny which awaits all of us, and the realisation that that, life is for living, and, though not necessarily to be lived recklessly, should be lived in such a way as if there might not be any tomorrows for the person living it. This quote,

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - HOW PRUDENT IS IT TO TRY TO CAPTURE THE MOON?

Image
At what price are you trying to capture the Moon, while ignoring the smaller stars which are in your grasp?  As confident as you might be that you are going to capture the Moon, what will you think if it continues to elude you?  Do you consider it better to risk your all on this great quest, while sacrificing the smaller pleasures and satisfaction you could derive from achieving the smaller goals you could more easily achieved on your journey of living, and the accumulation of which might even be greater than the uncertain success you might have in capturing the Moon? Consider living for the small things in life, as they can be more precious, beautiful and enjoyable than the big things. But most of all, avoid neglecting the more easily achievable goals which you could have, while investing your all in the on the still uncertain quest to win ‘the big one.’   The Moon will always be there, and certainly long after you have done your time on the earth

UNITED KINGDOM'S BLACKLIVESMATTERS - HOW APPLICABLE?

Image
So, some people in the United Kingdom think it is a good idea to have a BlackLivesMatters movement, a development which is no more that a copying of the BlackLivesMatters movement in the United States of America. The first reaction of many British people is likely to be one of, Why? Why do some Black British people think it would be a good idea that Britain needs such a movement? What would they hope to achieve from having a campaign to tell the British people that 'BlackLivesMatters', when it is so obvious that it does? And yes, with the corollary that 'AllLivesMatters', as they do? The advocates of BlackLivesMatters, in the United Kingdom, could, accurately cite the fact that, compared with their percentage of the general population, the lives of more black people than white people, have probably been lost as a result of the poorer treatment they have received from the police, the judiciary and the penal system. They could also cite the f

THE SOCIAL WORKER. PART 5

Image
The first meeting between the social worker and the family might be one of apprehension and anxiety, rather than being viewed as a bed of roses. And what of the service-user, client and/or their family; what are they likely to be looking out for when they first meet you, ‘their new social worker’? Will they, depending on the ages of the children, and their parents even want to meet you? Here, you will get a picture of ‘how the land has laid’ prior to your intervention in this family’s life, and, hopefully, ‘want to make a positive difference.’  The likely reaction of the family to you will be influenced by the relationship between them and their previous social worker, the reasons why the local authority became involved with the family, and what has been the outcome of that intervention to date. If the local authority’s intervention was precipitated by, say a child protection concern, rather than, say, the family experiencing some child care problem

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THOSE LITTLE ANNOYING AND IRRITATING THINGS WHICH PAINS US SO MUCH

Image
It would be more helpful if we were to focus more on the little positive things in life, which we tend to take for granted, and focus less on the little negative ones which have already cause us such pain as a result of them occurring and us spending more time bringing them back to life. There are times when we magnify the small irritating and annoying things which befall us in our daily living. These things which, despite  our best attempts to control them and accord them the ‘insignificance’ which they probably are, individually, collectively exert power over emotions and are able to inflict serious pain on our mental and social lives As we approach the flare up, we almost automatically begins to gird ourselves for it, by digging deep into our memory recall facility to search for previous ‘individually insignificant’ but annoying and irritating things which this person had done to us, and which we had overlooked or had not ‘made a meal of’ in the past.   Havi

AN IMAGINARY CONVERSATION WITH GOD. PART 5

Image
This is a continuation of Taku's imaginary conversation with God T.: So, G,why did you decide to create the Earth? Well, now T, have you ever felt lonely and alone? Yes, I know you have, and I also know that you know that I do know that you have felt alone and lonely at times. Having, according to the ‘creationists’, created humans, I am privy to their, to your innermost thoughts, or so you might have me believing. So, having come into existence from the clouds and dust which predated me, I was astonished by what I could see and sense and feel. And, I thought to myself, or we, as have been mentioned in the Book of Genesis, what should I do with my time for all eternity?  And the answer came to me as a vision; why not create a universe, so that I could have control over it and occupy and amuses myself with it? And so it was that I created, or, according to the ‘creationists’, came to be attributed with the creation of the earth. T.: If we could

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - LIFE IS NOT FAIR, AND NEVER WILL BE

Image
No, life, living is not fair, unless you are referring to 'fair' compared with 'dark'! But no, life, living is not fair, is you are speaking of all humans starting off on the same starting line, with none having a 'head start' or starting from behind the starting line. Life is not fair, if you have in mind, all humans starting from the position of knowledge, capacity, intellect and appropriate equipment for the journey. No, life is not fair and never will be fair in respect of any grand notion of all humans being created equal, because well we know that they were not. Rather did our ancestors evolved haphazardly and probably as randomly as contemporary humans find themselves dotted around the world, with this and that resource surrounding them by chance and not design.  For many people, appreciating and enjoying the simple natural beauty of the environment with which they might be blessed, will their 'fairness.' With apparent en
