In the economic sphere, the elites have given us this personified thing or concept  called ' the free market' and 'capitalism', which they now use to determine the economic and sentimental value of all that we use in our living. It is not a straightforward matter for Elizabeth Truss to address these policies, because, as I have already said, the 'prison works' approach is one that safeguards the profitability of the independent or private contractors businesses which are now running many prisons. So, me included, do we not just love to blame the elites for all or most of the wrongs in the world? Do we not like to contend that they are responsible for the mess the world is in at present? That it has always been and will always be in; probably atleast until the rest of us, the 'non-elites', take more responsibility for improving the conditions of humanity? Yes, it is so easy and effortless for us to blame this and that world leader - its Obama's, its Putin, its Assad's fault - this and that multi-billionaire, blame that country, that dictator for all or most of the misfortune which has and is besetting the world. This has now meant that these private contractors - and, yes the government - have a vested interest in keeping prisons full and even overcrowded, so that the unit cost of keeping each inmate penned, can be as low as possible. What we can understandably fear from the incoming Donald Trump/Republicon administration, is the fact that it is going to cause some major - though not all permanent - upheavals nationally and internationally. The United Kingdom is currently having problems with both her prison population and with the men and women, the staff, on whom she depends to ensure that her prisons are run properly. Properly, of course, includes making sure that both the inmates and the staff are protected and not exposed to harm of any sort.
