JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON HOW WALKING THE EXTREMIST PATH DOES NOT MAKE US 'EXTREMISTS.! PART 2.

Yes, to buck the trend of conformity and test the accuracy and boundaries of 'natural laws.' So, back to the subject of this post, which is about 'extremism' and how it is being perceived.  Like the forces of 'light' and 'darkness' in a medieval play, 'extremism' and the 'war against extremism' have become a part of the human lexicon.  They have become both a de facto and de jure aspects of all our lives.  And, just as how in medieval times - and in some parts of the world, currently - terrible things have been done in the name 'defeating the forces of 'evil', of 'the ungodly' and the 'heathen.'  So have terrible things been done in the name of  defeating 'the extremists.' Now, it is not my contention that 'extremists and 'extremism' does not pose any real and terrible threat to us humans, and our need to continue to advance the enlightenment of the whole world.  No,

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 7.

Image
You see, at this stage of her life, for whatever reason/s, my dear mother seems to be getting most of her energy and desire to live, out of making herself a conduit for negative energies.  With her preoccupation with what is wrong with her life and those interacting with her.  Her almost constant refrain will be, first and foremost, about the constant pains and aches she is feeling.  It will be about the disinterest in and failure of the medical profession to cure her and bring her back to her pre-ailment and physically health stage of life.  It is about the disinterest of nearly everybody, including family, in her suffering and misery.  Put simply or concisely, the weight of my dear mother's apparent misery, at times.   Will leave both saints and demons feeling powerless to bring her to the point where she will not only feel, but exclaim that, despite all of my aches and pains.  I am feeling positive and reasonably satisfied, happy, at this mome

And, whereas there is a direct link between his country selling arms to the Saudi government and the genocidal war against the Yemenis.   There is no such link between the arms selling and the heinous murder of Jamal Khoshoggi. But there is no denying that the arms trade is providing jobs for thousands of Americans and helping to maintain them and their families.  This is a fact, and, while we can take issue with the nature of some of the jobs which Saudi money is funding, we cannot dispute the fact that it is creating jobs for Americans.  Notwithstanding the arguable undesirability of some of them. Yes, when balanced against values such as estimable morality, Saudi money creating thousands of jobs in America's armament industries is worthy of being repudiated.  But when weighed on the scale of pragmatism, it is worthy of a more nuanced reaction.  After all, how many Americans working in the arms and associated industries, whose job security is dependent on Saudi

The evolution of our semantics is not something which advances in logical, reasonable and measured way. In its inception, it tends to be crude and unrefined.  It is somewhat like the characterisation of what Emile Durkheim has said about our human civilisation.  That it is 'superficial'. It is, as it were, skin deep, and if you dig just below the surface, you are likely to find a cauldron full of the repressed dark and inimical side of our human psyche.  The 'unsocialised', or 'uncivilised' persona of us, as it were. The 'me to the exclusion of everybody else.' And that is really the crux of what it is all about; socialisation of our personal.  One does not have to be a Marxist or follower of Karl Marx, to see the truth in concluding that us humans are products of our environment.  You just have to be an observer of people in their ordinary environments.  In the observable environment in which they live their/our daily lives, d

That it should be used to decide a people's fate, their present and future, irrespective of the actual cost.  Then, yes, of course what the British Prime Minister is doing, in using the 'authority' of the 52 per percent of the Referendum voters who voted to leave.   To legitimise British government's 'Brexit and Bust' campaign,  could be perceived as being both 'the right thing to do, and is defensible.'  But only, it seems to me, on that very simplistic basis, which does not augurs well for good statecraft. If, however, you happen to be someone who is aware of and is inclined to take a broader approach to what is happening, locally and internationally.   And to how Brexit could impact and be impacted by them, economically, socially, politically, in terms of regional stability and environmentally.  Then, the wisdom of following the 'logic of basic or simple 'democracy', seems to be a profoundly defective and fearful

To come between the two countries. No, sorry, not between the two countries, but, rather, between the governments of Saudi Arabia and the United States. So, what are we to make of President Trump's position on the murder and butchering of Jamal Khoshoggi, apparently and in effect by the government of Saudi Arabia?  The same government which is responsible for the murder, maiming and starvation of tens of thousands of Yemenis?  On what basis can or should the President's detractors question and dispute his conclusion and its implications?  Are they to base their opposition on 'grounds of morality', which even though the President has strong support from the Christian Conservatives.  Is a morality which has never been a virtuous element in the conduct of government and international affairs?  Or should they base their opposition on 'grounds of humanity'?  Even though the seemingly constant outrage about the United State's, Britain&

It is a process which will involve probably all of the different mindsets of the protagonists to be expressed in forceful and 'extremist' terms.   Both in terms of great compassion and hospitality towards the newcomers, and in 'extreme hostility' towards them.  As the different sides, depending on their particular perception of 'the problem' seeks to 'shock' people into reacting to it.  By 'dramatising it' or to 'under-stating it', in order to make it appear to be 'unmanageable' or 'manageable.'  As they attempt to validate their preferred approach to dealing with 'the problem.'  The increasing population of a country, does not, ipso facto, make that country wealthier.  But it could make it poor, as its resources becomes more quickly depleted.  As we can see from the experience of Haitians destroying nearly all of their forests, and leaving their eco-system at the mercy of drought, a

In a world which has now become more collectivised, smaller, and needs to reinforce the collectivist approach to sustaining humanity, in a more, and not less habitable and peaceful environment. It is the duty and responsibility of good leaders to have a vision of what is right and what is wrong.  Of what are desirable, achievable and 'cost effective', in the broad terms, goals for the people, and to ensure that these reflect, as much as possible, and resonate with the people.  With the greatest majority of the people and not just over half of them.  To walk away from the European Union, because 'we want to be in charge of our own borders, to be have more control in keeping outsiders out.  To be able apply our own regulations to our fishing and agricultural industries.  And remove the jurisdiction of the European Court, etc.  Is to behave like a petulant child who throws away the ball or kicks overs the wickets, etc, and declares him/herself n

'The relationship between nations are predicated upon their current self-interests, as perceived by their respective incumbent administrations, and may there ebb and flow as one administration replaces another. Although it is possible for their to be a relationship between the ordinary citizens of nations, this relationship cannot be formalised as 'people to people' relationship, unless it has the blessing of their respective governments.' In resolving the dilemma with which he has, most cruelly and unwisely, been presented.   By the government of Saudi Arabia, as a result of the heinous murder of the Journalist and reformer advocate, Jamal Khoshoggi.  Donald J Trump, the President of the United States of America, the reputed Leader of 'the free world', has been forced or has felt it necessary to verbalise what has been an axiom for hundreds of years.  He has said something which has always been a common practice, even if it runs counter t
