After all, knowing oneself also requires that person to 'know' how others perceive of and interact with them.  It requires the person seeking to know themselves, to also 'know of' the selves of them, that others know or believe they know.  Since 'knowing' is not only a state of ergosumness. It also has to take place in a social milieu, since one cannot fully know him/herself as an isolate.  Immersed in thoughts and esoteric interactions with the non-human organic and inorganic world. The 'knowing of ourselves', has to be more than the contemplation, reflections and meditations which occur in our 'minds', our brains.  It has to be about actively interacting with and experiencing the 'outer worlds', through the prisms of our senses. Europe and Russia has a lot in common. There is a lot of similarity between many of their peoples.  They share a lot of the European land mass, they have shared religions, and their civilisations and histories have intermingled with one another.  Notwithstanding the fact that Russia and the Russian Federation have a greater ethnic, cultural and religious diversity than Western Europe has.  With the latter considering itself, at least, before the past 50 or so years, to be a largely mono-ethnic and cultural enclave of humanity. In this respect, Russia and Russians are not 'European aliens' or 'aliens' to Europe. The chances are that the rebels, none of them, are going to succeed in achieving whatever their objectives were.  If they are going to make a positive contribution towards their country and the Syrian people, then, their focus should be on what their objectives should be, now.  It would not be a bad start for them to first consider self-preservation.  To focus on what they need to do to save their own lives, and then that of the ordinary people around them.  They people whom they have persuaded to support them, and those who, although not really having been their supporters, were not able to escape their lives being controlled by them. In other words, it is time for the rebels, whether they are currently being supported by the Turkish and Saudi governments, or the Americans and others, to call it time.  To negotiate their surrender to the Syrian government. As well as finding successful innovative and traditional ways of addressing the 'migrant and refugee crisis' which Europe and America perceive themselves to be experiencing still. All of these and other challenges call for the building of solutions, as opposed to Europe's and America's past readiness to offer and provide 'destructive solutions.'  The kind which they had voluntarily inflicted on Libya, on Yemen, Iraq and Syria.  And which, if not having caused the 'migration and refuge crisis', has done a great deal to bring it about. The West has seen how their attempt to bring down the legitimate government of Syria. In the purported name of 'humanity', of 'freedom and democracy.'  Has nearly led to ISIL and its various mutations taking over the Middle East, parts of North Africa and of Asia.  And, gradually, their folly has dawned on them, causing them to, at last, re-evaluate what they have been trying to do in Syria. 

War is Hell with a capital H. It kills and maims people, both the innocent and the combatants.  It makes no or little distinction between men and women, old and young.  It destroys property and livelihoods with impunity, and has no regard for what it destroys and for the labour and resources which have gone into giving life to them.  War does not recognises and show any deference to to beauty. No, war hates beauty and what is good, and so it makes it its objective to destroy them.  War does not like life and the living, and so it sets forth to destroy them.  War is a master craftsman of how to destroy, and it does not differentiate between destroying people and buildings; the habitat of humanity.  The primary purpose of war is to destroy those who the combatants and their supporters oppose. The more the better, or so it seems. Which is why the world should now be breathing a sigh of relief that the terrible 7 plus years War in Syria, could now be approaching its en
