After all, we can see the other non-human animals, so it clearly is not the case that they do not exist. I and we can see them, therefore, they exist, in a real, tangible and objectified sense. Whether or not they have any sense or state of consciousness, of being able to perceive of themselves as separate beings or members of the community of similar beings. Although we can make all sorts of hypotheses about the metaphysical world, both real and imagined, but there is little doubt about the 'realness' of these animals. Why, we can and do touch them, feel them, and even kill and eat them. So, how can there be any doubt about their realness? So, could it be that the 'core', the 'essence' of me, is that I and others can see 'me'? That 'I' can see and perceive, become conscious of of 'me' being seen by 'myself' and by others?
