MEXICAN GRAND PRIX - TEAM MERCEDES MADE IT AN UNLIKELY WIN!

Image
I imagine that we could, accurately, attribute some of Hamilton's undeserved comments about what he saw as Verstappen's wayward driving during the starting session.  As symptomatic of Hamilton's failure to suppress his anxiety about the validity of Team Mercede's strategy in changing his tyres quite early in the race.  And, later, him  finding it difficult to contain his exciting and pleasure at winning a race him and his Team.  Whenever I hear or see the Great Lewis Hamilton dissed younger drivers for their intrepidity and sometimes reckless driving, I am reminded of the younger Hamilton racing for Team McLaren, and coming to grief.  To the consternation of racers such as Massa and Fernando. Yes, Verstappen might be pleased that he is 'in the head' of the likes of Hamilton, Vettel and Leclerc.   But it is also the case that, within the head of the young and relentless Verstappen, there resides a this raw and rather frustrated Hamilton f

MEXICAN GRAND PRIX - TEAM MERCEDES MADE IT AN UNLIKELY WIN! PART 1.

One of the sweetest victories can be that which was least or not expected at all, and so was it for Team Mercedes and their racers, Hamilton and Bottas, in having made it a P.1 and P.3 to bring an exciting end to the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix.  To be sure, as Massa and Perez might say, the race at the AHR. Circuit was not without its incidents.  The most serious of which occurred in the frantic few hundred metres of the start of the race, which several races coming together in unrequited love and suffering bodily damage in their aggressive embraces.  Among these were no other than Hamilton, Vettel, Verstappen and Bottas.  With Hamilton and Verstappen suffering damage which were to prove significant to their races, even though it would not adversely impact on Hamilton's unexpected winning of the Grand Prix.  Not so for Verstappen, even though he was able to successfully recover from the impact of his punctured tyre and acquitted himself well in finishing the race

JUST PHILOSOPHISING ON - 'DIRECT DEMOCRACY' OR 'PEOPLE'S POWER' BEING NO WAY TO RUN A COUNTRY! PART 1.

Image
Call it what you may, 'direct democracy', 'people's power',  or 'populist or bloody revolution.'  None of these 'systems' or methods are effective and appropriate ways of removing the current government and replacing it with a new one.  Yes, it is true that these rebellions, uprisings, revolutions, demonstrations, etc, provide a great deal of oxygen and meat for the media, be it the populist or more considered and serious media and broadcasters.  That they provide increased or new demands for the 'experts on international affairs' to demonstrate their relevance.   As well livening up the perennial debate on the comparative advantages of 'liberal democracy', versus the floundering of decaying dictatorships, and the apparent deficits of Chinese and Russian societies.  Not that these debates will necessarily provide the listeners and viewers with anything new or profound.   Since most of the media, whether it is actin

MEXICAN GRAND PRIX - TEAM MERCEDES STRUGGLE; BUT TEAMS FERRARI AND RED BULL BREEZE IT!

Let us hope that Teams Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes' racers will not interpret the need to demonstrate their mastery and competitiveness during this race.   As meaning that they have to give free reign to their more impulse instincts, as doing so could seriously compromise their and/or others race. Hamilton, the pundits have argued, could win his 6th World Championship at this Grand Prix.  Of course, he does not have to win it at this one, and does not have to become impatient and frustrated - as he had been in the previous Grand Prix - and take any risk which could cost him more than he could lose.  But this is a situation in which Hamilton does not only have to not take any unnecessary and avoidable risk. He must also ensure that he avoids the actions of other racers placing him in harms way. As we look forward to the 2010 Mexican Grand Prix, and wait to see which racers and teams will take hold of the golden wires and put in performances worthy of placi

MEXICAN GRAND PRIX - TEAM MERCEDES STRUGGLE; BUT TEAMS FERRARI AND RED BULL BREEZE IT! P.1

Oh, Max; why, why did you do it when you did not have to, and ended up carelessly throwing away your Pole position during the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix?  And so it was that, having failed to properly evaluate the changed conditions under which FIA races have evolving during the 2019 season.  Red Bull's Max Verstappen did made the mistake of thinking that the greatest penalty he could or would be awards, was to have his final lap during Q3 of Saturday's Qualifying session, deleted.  Max, it seemed, had failed to slow down after Bottas's body wrenching javlin-like crash into the barrier wall of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez Circuit.  The result of his inaccurate assumption is that Max will be starting today's Grand Prix at P.4 instead of P.1.  With the Ferrari races, Leclerc and Vettel, being promoted to P. and P.2 respectively, and Team Mercedes' Hamilton, being moved upto to P.3. And so we now have the ominous prospects of what was alwa

JUST A THOUGHT ON - THE BATTLE OF BREXIT. PART 2.

Image
For the Brexiteers, they are of the view that they possess the moral and the 'democratic' high ground.  They believe that they have won the right to their demand that Britain leaves the European Union.  They believe and argue that the Remainers, those British people, and, indeed, their allies from other European countries who oppose Britain leaving, does not have a leg to stand on.  Yes, the Remainers can argue that it is bad and too damaging for Britain to leave its European partners and seek to reestablish its own way in the world.  That it will be too damaging for Britain, and, indeed, the rest of Europe, in terms of lost jobs, political insecurity, higher cost of living and more restrictive travel and trade arrangements between Britain and the rest of Europe.  But none of this carry any weight with the Brexiteers. Why, because, probably understandably so, their primary concern is their preoccupation with giving effect to their main goal.  Which is that,
