THE NEED TO REFORM AND DEVELOP THE STANDARD OF OUR 'DEMOCRATIC SYSTEMS.' PART 4.

Image
This apathetic state of affairs is, in my opinion, not easily understood. After all, how can a country which, along with the United States, prides itself in 'democratic values', hold on to the past so strongly?  And refuses to effect any improvements in how well the government and the state serves the electorate, all of the electorate, and retains 'its people conferred legitimacy to rule over them'?  So, while a lot of effort and resources are being invested in promoting the creation and accumulation of wealth, and improving the health and education of the citizens of 'democratically backward' countries, such as Britain and the United States, very little or nothing is being done to improve the quality of their 'democracy'?  This glaring neglect of such an important corner stone of these countries' civil societies is nothing short of amazing and shameful. So, what kinds of things are needed to make the much vaunted and sacrosanctised &

We probably really do only hear and see, what we want to hear and see, after we have heard and seen what other people want us to hear and see, for a long enough period of time. And this applies to whichever side of the geopolitical fence we are located on. It is called being 'manipulated', intentionally or otherwise. The biggest fear the world has about Kim Jung-un, is that of whether this psychopathic tyrant who has made it his life's vocation to keep his leaden feet on the necks of his people, might or will attack his neighbour or the United States with nuclear weapons. According to the people in the know, North Korea has nuclear weapons, which means that, just as with the United States, and other countries possessing such weapons, it is not inconceivable that NK's government could unleash nuclear weapons on the world. However, while North Korea has become renown for its belligerence, it is the United States which has become renown for its involvement

.JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON STATES OF BEING. WORRIED. THE END.

The passage of time, it seems to me, is one of the biggest remedy for dealing with the distress of being worried. Yet, as it  is with grief, time, it seems, can elapse rather torturously slowly, when we are in a state of being worried.  At such times, time expires so slowly that we end up, it appears, having an excess amount of it to prolong our distress.  And so it is, that we need to use this time to engage in diversionary activities, activities which we might have been doing routinely and now need to continue to do; activities such as working and trying continue 'to live our 'normal life.'  Yes, there will be times and situations where we are not able to do so, because our worrying is proving too debilitating for us to continue with 'normality.'  We have to be able to concentrate on what we need to be be doing, such as trying to live a 'normal', even when we are acutely psychologically challenged, to be able to temporarily block out

THE NEED TO REFORM AND DEVELOP THE STANDARD OF OUR 'DEMOCRATIC SYSTEMS.' PART 3.

How is it that nothing or very little is apparently being done to fine tune and reform this model, which is so clearly deficient and defective? The fact that the First Past The Post system of choosing ones political representative, is resulting in many of the electorate not being represented on an 'equal basis.'  With, in some cases, more popular votes being required to elect a constituency candidate in one area, while in others, it is less. The fact that a vote for party a, sometimes does not have the same weight or value as one for party b.  As we have seen in the general elections in Britain, in 2015, and the presidential elections in the United States, in 2016. Why should such inequalities within the 'democratic electoral process' be allowed to continue?  Oftentimes simply because the larger parties benefit or appear to benefit from them, at the cost of the smaller parties.  Which aspect of such a process is 'fair', or 'democratic'?

Returning to my argument about Kim Jung-un and Donald Trump. It is an unfortunate fact that the former will, wrongly, in my view, be perceived as being a bigger threat than the latter. This is probably because the 'perception' has a tendency to be exaggerated or inflated in terms of whether it is a 'desirable' or 'feared' perception.  With the United States having a 'favourable perception' as being the 'good country', and North Korea having a 'perception of being the 'bad country.' It means that the reality of the Trumpists as the 'bad guys', is likely to be deflated, and even disbelieved, by many who have already 'bought and internalised' the idealised and inflated 'good country perception.' It is like, everything America does and says must the 'right' because it is seen as the standard by which one judges 'right and wrong.'  For people with this mindset, everything, say, the Ru

The Don has been incongruously and unsuccessfully portraying himself as the protector of the American people. But how can that be, when he and his obnoxious policies are what place American - and the world - at most risk of harm?  When it is his intention and that of his administration of probably mostly deranged and deluded senior officials, to pursue an hostile and aggressive policy of military adventurism abroad, while pursuing an archaic, illiberal and 'undemocratic' national policy at home? Of course, we can understand why The Don would want to stop Muslims from coming or immigrating to the United States. If the essence of his foreign policy is to make Muslims, and Muslim countries which are not allied to America, such as Yemen and Iran and Syria, persistent targets for attacks by for America, before 'retreating' behind the defensive walls of 'Fort America.'  This is probably why he would want to pursue the policy which he is current i

Might it also be the case that the electorate no longer needs or believes that the government is willing or able to enable and facilitate them achieving economic self-sufficiency, or, with the 'welfare safety net', in times of economic hardship, and is actually questioning the legitimacy of governments and the state?  After all, if the government and the state cannot keep their part of the explicit or implicit 'social contract', what does that say about their continuing legitimacy to exercise control over the lives of the citizens?  Why should the citizens maintain their allegiance to the government and the state, if they perceive one or the other not to be 'doing anything of value for them'? And so, in the western hemisphere we hear the understandable refrain of those pleading and arguing for the government to do more for the poor, for the sick, for the old and for the young.  And after restating these obvious and ever increasing needs, there is t
