That was not the norm in that period of the social and psychological development of the society we lived in.  My dear mother, of course, needed to be strong, both physically and psychologically.   Given that, not unlike many other women of that period, she was subjected to physical and emotional violence of her husband, which has left an indelible and still active blight on her life.  She had been strong enough to cope with the unhappy relationship with her now deceased husband.  And, for whatever reasons, never had or taken the opportunity to engage in another relationship.   Notwithstanding the fact that, in her former years, she was a strikingly beautiful and elegantly looking woman.  Who has now been physically freed of her abusive husband since she was about 47 years old.  To be continued!

It is also part of the burden of the conscientious black man that he is having to contend with the tendency of some of 'his people', to characterise the black man in the image of being a 'victim of the white man.'  To be forever bemoaning how he or his ancestors, have been unjustly treated by the white man.  To define themselves as either belonging to the 'pure type', unblemished and courageous black people' of ancient times.   Or as the product of the exploitation and injustices which 'there/our people' have experienced at the hands of the white man in times gone by.
