RELIGIOUS DILEMMAS - DREAMING OF OR IMAGINING A WORLD WITHOUT THEISTIC RELIGIONS! PART 5.

Image
'In truth, if any person tells you that 'God' or the gods has ever asked anything of you, do not be afraid to ask such a person to prove it; to explain to you why 'God' has chosen not to ask it of you himself.  And do not be satisfied with a reference to this or that 'holy religious text or doctrine.' So, yes, it is the case that the 'Gods', both the Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic ones, have been used by their respective religious faiths, to keep human spiritual enlightenment in a state of arrested development.   With much of our development having occurred despite the prohibitions and restriction and brutal oppression of relevant religious faiths, instead of having been assisted by them. But, let us imagine or dream of a world free of the constraint of religion and theism.  How would or could such a world look? What is clear that such a world would have to look very different from what it now is.  With 'God' being

JUST A THOUGHT - ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DOMINANCE OF THE TRUMPIANS. PART 4.

With the intention of making its tenure as short as possible, with the use of whatever means are legal, and the freedom and lack of accountability which only an opposition party or parties can enjoy. It is this mould which the electoral victory of Donald Trump, as President of the United States, seem to have broken.  'Strongmen' have been known to have taken power in their countries before. Their are the numerous examples in many of the countries of the Middle East, Africa and South America.  But those have been called coups, as it had been figures in the military who have used the armed forces to seize power from civilian governments.   And then set up their own 'host quasi-political party' or remove or bribe the leaders of existing parties and use them as hosts to give political legitimisation to their rule.  On the European mainland, we have seen examples of this in the rise of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and Caetano.  So, again, are things

'What we recall of our experiences of the past, tends to be a factor of how they impacted on our senses at the time, the strength of our continuing attachment to those experiences.   And the extent to which we have succeeded in assimilating them into our subsequent experiences and move on with our lives.' But now is now, and what his and Nzuri's and Mzaliwa's minds were filled with.   Was the shocking thought of how long a time Kazaliwa would have to remain incarcerated before he would be at liberty to join them again as a family.  To walk, talk and interact with them and the world as a free man. Yes, 5 years is a long time to be deprived of your liberty.  Even if others who are not directed impacted by 'this every day tragedy', and the victims of Kazaliwa's offences against their person, might not think so, or have any views about it. Analysed carefully, even though the thought might not have entered their minds.   Kazaliwa'

'What we recall of our experiences of the past, tends to be a factor of how they impacted on our senses at the time, the strength of our continuing attachment to those experiences.   And the extent to which we have succeeded in assimilating them into our subsequent experiences and move on with our lives.' Mzaliwa, at times when he would allow his mind to look back.   Might been forgiven for contemplating. For contemplating on what might have happened, if their son, Kazaliwa, had been given a 3 instead of a 13 years sentence?  Would that have made him lucky and motivated, equipped him with the knowledge, skills and maturity to turn his life around?  Would it have been enough time to provide him with the range of experiences he needed to learn from, so as to transform the passion, the burning desire he had for his so far criminal mindset.  Into embracing a healthy and positive way of life?  Or would he simply came out of the door after probably servi

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 71.

And she does all of this while continuing to make her old concerns and dissatisfaction essential parts of her daily routine.  Yes, she still complains of not being able to see out of one of her eye, apparently with the clear expectation that this is something which is or can be improved.  Even though it seems equally, if not clearer to me that that is not the case, and that she will just have to come to terms with it as it is.  Difficult as that might be, considering that it was only recently that I was having some 'face time' on the phone with her.   When she appeared without any of her glasses,  trying to keep the affected eye closed and telling me that she cannot see anything out of it.  Dear Mother, I said to her, where are your glasses; why are you not wearing them, and why are you covering one of your eyes, when you should be using both of them to see me?  But on the whole, I do believe that I am detecting more resignation from

This, from the experience of human history, has consistently been show to be so; there is nothing mysterious about it.  Just as how it is the case that, once dead, the body of all living organisms, including humans, begins to decay. Some might say 'God' had given the reputedly dead Christ the equivalent of artificial resuscitation, but, again, only the gullible faithful would believe that.  Just as how there is nothing tangible, no irrefutable evidence to prove that Christ did rise from being dead and resume living, if ever he really did live, so is there for irrefutable proof of evidence that 'God' existed. The fact that millions, if not billions of humans have and continue to believe in 'God' and in Christ's reputed resurrection, does not amount to irrefutable proof that either event has taken place.  It does not lessen their improbability and make them more credible. In all likelihood, the story of Christ's resurrection fr

However unlikely it might be to really happen, that my dear mother could become ill and I would not be able to visit her. That she could die, and I might not be able to see her.  That she could be buried, and I and other members of the family and her friends, not be able to attend her funeral. All because we are now living in covid-19, a coronaviral world. All of which is rather frightening, probably so frightening that it seems unreal and is something which my psyche is not fully taking in. But, in the midst of this seeming madness, my dear mother continues to get on with her life, making her own adjustments and adopting to others which has been made on her behalf.  Such as now having to come to terms with not seeing me and other members of the family who used to visit her regularly.  Such as having to depend on her professional carers to provide her with care and practical support 7 days a week.  And me, with having to reduced her shopping to fortnight

'If one needs to have a 'God', then there is no point in having one that is not even as powerful as you; one who is not able to help you when you are in need of help.' First by Christ refusing to remain dead, as the billions of other people who have died since his now suspected 'false death'.  But he also defied physics by navigating his way out of the Earth's cold and fiery upper atmosphere, and flew away to this mythical land of milk and honey called 'Heaven.'  At another time we might wish to debate whether or not 'Heaven's' milk and honey is made by cows, goats, camels, sheep, et al, and swarms of bees. But for now, our concern is that of the improbability of Christ having been resurrected from his death.  If someone was to claim such a feat today, he/she would not be believed, because all but the most gullible and scientifically ignorant person knows that, once you are dead, you are dead and the process

'It is absurd that, of the billions of people who have and continue to die since Christ's alleged resurrection from the dead, he should have been the only one blessed with this magical quality.  This suggests that, the resurrection was a fictitious event and a major religious fraud being perpetuated on the masses.'  So, today is Easter Sunday, a day when the faithful will be celebrating what they believed and/or convinced themselves, was the resurrection of a man called Jesus Christ, from his death.  Now, it is the case that, ever since that reputed event occurred in the Middle East over 2000 years ago, no one, absolutely nobody has ever been able to repeat the miracle which 'God' had reportedly wrought on his reputed 'Son.'  Billions of humans have been born and all died since this fabled man called Christ, had reportedly risen from the death and walked or, for all we know, flew or levitated out of his stone sepulchre and disap

He was also guided by a pragmatic and logical frame of mind. At least, at crunch times.  It was a pragmatism which would see him surviving the required amount of years he had to serve in prison.  His sentence was still a massive shock, for everybody, including himself, as his solicitor, on the day of the sentencing, had told his parents that they expected him to get about 3 years.  But that, as it transpired, was before the probation officer preparing his pre-sentencing report, which was also presented to the court on the morning of the sentencing, which concluded that Kazaliwa was assessed as being at high risk of re-offending.  Years later, afte
