  Which also probably is further confirmation that she is not always comprehending what is being said or said to her.  This can be deduced from the manner in which I saw her examining her bedside lamp, recently.  My dear mother takes up the lamp and help it in her hand, keenly scrutinising it as she turns it in her hand.  The impression I, and doubtlessly others would, got from her close examination of the lamb is that it is the first time she is seeing. Thus her noticeable curiosity.  However, that is far from being the case, as my mother has had this lamp on her little bedside chest of drawers for atleast 2 years now.   Seemingly, she has forgotten this fact, and is now looking at the lamp, not only as if she has never seen it before, but as if she does not understand how and why it functions.  She has also taken to recalling that her eldest daughter has been asking her to look after her children.  Something which could make sense, except that all of her daughter's children are n

  Anyway, I tried to determine whether my dear mother was able to follow what I had read her, by asking her which prophet I was reading about.  She was not able, or rather, did not give me sufficient information to convince me that she understood it enough to retain any sense from it.  The impression I get, when I reflect upon my cognitive or intellectual interactions, is that she is now predominantly occupying a state of passivity or passive participation. She will rarely initiate taking or discussions.  It is as if she never has anything to say. She looks but says little of her own volition, and is not much assisted by prompts and encouragement. She has the power of speech, but her ability, her capacity to carry out, to perform the cognitive tasks which must be carried out.  In order for her to construct and transmit information in a logical order, have declined and are clearly still declining.  All of which leaves my dear mother, probably more often than not, looking the part of a f
