Oh my; how low can the mighty sunk, when so many, if not all the leaders of the world are stepping on each others toes to swear obeisance and loyalty to President Elect, Donald Trump! The rot began with Hillary Clinton, then with President Obama, then other world leaders; all of whom had previously declared their belief that Donald Trump is the equivalent, if not the de facto 'anti-christ', the 'devil', if you like. And, no sooner has he won the Presidential election, do we have these quissleling world leaders, as if beset by great fear of being killed by a vengeful warlord, tripping over themselves to ask for forgiveness and to be spared the wrath of President Trump. These world leaders, like Hillary Clinton, like President Obama, are behaving as if the are cowards, leaders without any honour or conviction in what they previously said they stood for. Another essential component of any credible reforming of the criminal justice system, should be the principle avoiding using the incarceration of the convicted person as a punishment, unless it is properly assessed as being needed to avoid a high likelihood of reoffending and harm to members of the public. This approach would require more use or more use to be made of 'house or home detention' of the convicted person, and electronic tracking and monitoring, as well as the usage of other community-oriented measures. After all, we are now living in the 21st Century, where computers and the micro chip are kings. So, why this continuing reliance on punishing humans by caging them and treating the even more cruelly than probably most livestock, including those which are reared in production 'batteries'? Will President Trump's American vision be as turbulent as he and others are painting it, or will it be.. So, as has now become the norm, the pollsters and their polls are no longer worth even the price of the graphs on which they are displayed. Their unreliability when taken at face value has now become legend. Unless you invert their prediction, by reading the 'predicted winner as the likely loser', political opinion polls have now become a paradoxical weapon in politics.  I would not be surprised it these polls and their predictions are not being deliberately used by the parties' strategists as a weapon against their challengers. The subliminal message seems to be that of, on the one hand, giving the 'predicted winner' as sense of false security, resulting in their supporters not turning out, as 'they are already going to win. And, on the other hand, tell the opposition supporters that they did better go out and vote, or else the 'predicted

However, the chances of, say Britain or America employing the 'root and branch removal option', in seeking to address the fundamental and endemic malfeasance of their criminal justice system, is probably unlikely to even happen. It is more likely that any changes are going to take place at the margins, as it were. This could be assisted by having a criminal justice system which makes incarceration of offenders, particularly those who are of low risk of reoffending, or whose offences are not very serious, the exception, rather than the rule. Community or in-the-community 'punishment' options would become the norm, accounting for the disposal of most convictions.  This would become the new 'root', or raison detre' of the cjs. In other words, if I might be uneconomical with words, the criminal justice system would be founded upon the new principles and objectives or outcomes which are desired of it. We could have 'objectives or outcomes

The news that Donald Trump and the Republicons have beaten Hillary Clinton and the Democrats in winning the contest to become the 45th President of the United States of America, is not one which will be received by many millions of Americans and other people over the world, with a sense of glad tidings or hope. No, as Christmas approaches, it is the kind of news many people were hoping they and the world would be protected from. The hoped for news, even if with a bit of nausea, was that 'Hillary Clinton is the new President Elect.'
