JUST PHILOSOPHISING ON - SOCIAL WORK AND THE ADOPTION DILEMMA. PART 1.

Image
It is no easy matter caring for your own children. And, not surprisingly, it should be even more difficult caring for other people's children.   Especially when the circumstances leading to an individual, couple or family having to take on this challenge, are adverse ones, as they usually are.  Such as a child being an orphan, his/or mother or parents being too young and/or lacking in the required skills and capabilities to care for their child or children.  Or the child having been the subject of serious actual or potential harm from their parents, requiring them to be safeguarded by being placed with other family members or other non-related alternative carers. It has been known for young people to get pregnant and have children, with the intention being to 'have someone for them to care for', or to love them and help them to feel worthwhile.'  It has also been known for young people in Britain, probably more so in the past, to have children, not because they are equi

JUST PHILOSOPHISING ON - THE PROBLEM BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE PALESTINIANS : NO WAY OUT ???? PART 1.

'If we allow ourselves to become wedded to the past, then we are or are risking empowering the past to control and limit our ability to act on the opportunities for us to realises a future which exceeds the best our ancestors had been able to realise.  Instead of becoming builders of the future, we become preservers of a past which might have worked in the past, but not to meet the challenges of the present or the future.' So, is there really any problem for which there is no answer, no solution, as it were?  Or is it the situation that all problems do have answers and solutions, but that one has to await the 'right time,' as it were.   for that or those answers and solutions to be found.   And for the protagonists, as in the case of the conflict between the state of Israel and the Palestinians and their respective allies,  to  become willing to apply those answers and solutions? To what extent the issue of the 'question and answer,  problem and solution' conu

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 115.

Image
Of course, my interest in my dear mother's progress or journey towards the abyss.  Is not only because of my love and desire to help to care for her and bring some joy to the remainder of her life.  No, my interest and concern, like with so many other things in life, is mutual. It is also about self-interest.  It is about observing, noting and trying to make sense of how age, advance aging, brings a gradual or even rapid decline in our physical , mental and intellectual health.  It is about understanding, through my dear mother's journey, what might, could be in store for me.   And pondering, contemplating how I might, if I am able to, avoid or deal with it, should I be fated to making a journey similar to my mother's.  It is about rehearsing a journey I might or might not be fated to take.  But, just in case I am fated to do so, I can be as prepared as I am able to, to take it with as much of my humility and oneness with the world, intact. Which is why, though there are

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 114.

Despite my non-believer status, my dear mother has taken up my offer to read her passages from the Bible. Something she used to have me do some decades ago.  And now, as I read to her, it does bring back memories of my former 'believer' time. A time when, had I been able to have my way, I might have now become a Christian missionary.  A person of the cloth, as it were. And, yes, the very thought of me having gone down such a road, doeth fill me with despair, or rather, I feel happy that I was not successful in 'getting my way.'  Even though I do enjoy reading the scriptures to my dear mother, and am moved to to add in the ".. and, women, sisters.."  As the egotistical all male apostles and authors of the scriptures, either tend to leave out references to women, female, of make references of ill-repute about them.  I sometimes wonder whether my dear mother is aware that I am adding to what is written. It is difficult for me to read to her while always watchin

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON VALUE OF 'IDEALISM.' PART 2.

Image
Well, probably interestingly, Google, in answering my question about idealism.   Makes reference to "German idealism", linking it to Immanuel Kant, and tells us that it was a philosophical movement which emanated in the 18th and 18th centuries. Google also gives another definition of this noun, as being the "unrealistic belief in or pursuit of perfection.." "The idealism of youth.' I suspect that all sentient humans who survive birth and are blessed with a relatively competent cognitive function, and reached the age where they/we are able to utilise it.  Will be able to indulge in some level of philosophising.  Many of us will be aware that the concept and practice of the art that has become know as philosophy, predated the known and well-known philosophers.  Philosophers have been around long before the famous Greek, Persian, Middle Eastern,  Indian, Chinese, Roman and other philosophers.  They might have been called by other names, probably, visionaries
