AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 134.

They might have been great poets and word architects who have created or composed beautify and inspiring verses, but they are, like you and me, just human.  But there is nothing divine or theocratic about their sometimes beautiful, sometimes fearful and terrible, sometimes sagacious, sometimes romantic, sometimes deranged and paranoid formulations. So, will I continue to read for my dear mother? I guess we shall see. I am not sure that it would be right for me to continue to read for her, only because I enjoy doing so.  If she is not getting anything out of it, I fear that I might feel fraudulent in continuing to read 'for me', as opposed to, 'for her.' The is a saying that we should sometimes take life, or, probably more accurately, living, a day at a time, and so it should be, even more so at the age of my dear mother.  After all, who is to say when she will be in that optimum 'frame of mind' when she sees or perceives things more clearly than she has been d

And with this decreasing eloquence of my dear mother in making her thoughts know, comes my own discomfiture.  As I am left to work harder at interpreting, at trying to deduce what, if anything she requires, and requires of me.  I now find myself wondering whether she is hearing, following or able to follow the chapters of the Bible.  Which I have been under, probably, the illusion that I am reading eloquently, authoritatively and sermonially to my dear mother. And what if she is not able to follow; to make sense of what I am reading?  Would that be a sufficient reason for me to stop this practice? Could I possible justify continuing with these readings on the basis that I am enjoying these episodes of feeling of oneness with my dear mother?  The fact that I am now again doing something which I used to do in my teens and early twenties, as I complied with the requests of my dear mother for me to read to her from the Bible?  Even though, when I used to read for her in the past, it migh

How can it, when it wants to beat, push, pommel and mould the whole Afghan nation into the straight-jacket of Islamic religious orthodoxy of the past. Islamic Caliphate?  To fit them into the intellectually averse museum existence of the past. It is in this kind of 'theistic' or theocratic world that the 'unreformed Taliban' can have and exercise authority. Religious authority. The URT - unreformed Taliban - is not capable of preparing and equipping Afghanistan and its people to make their way in the world of the 21st Century.  And yet, it does have a role to play, which it is arguably performing now. By helping to bring the necessary peace to the country.  Even though we cannot and should not rule out the likelihood of further violence at subsequent stages of the process of nation building. The Taliban would, and most likely are arguing that they are fighting for 'the soul of Afghanistan and its people. ' However, if they define the  soul of the country and i

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON THE CASE FOR NOT HAVING CHILDREN. PART 2.

Could it be said that, if our human species, as we now exist, were to become extinct, it would give the Earth and its ecosystem time to recover and replenish?  And probably become replenished at some time in the future.  Hopefully with a more prudent and environmentally friendly 'higher intellectually endowed species' at the top of the ruling hierarchy?  Probably one of the species that we are currently dominating? I mean, could it be environmentally, morally and in the interest of the survival of non-human species, for one to argue that humans should stop not having children?   Based on our human species accepting that our continuing  existence is of such a nature that, it is having a detrimental, and, ultimately, fatal impact on other species and upon the Earth.  Both floral and faunal, and should therefore be terminated. And, secondly, such a species is imbued with an excess of altruism If we, humans, were to see ourselves as equal to the other animals gathered at the Anim
