JUST A THOUGHT ON - 'SURVIVING SOCIAL WORK. THE END...

Having the added safeguarding measure of, yes, a 'spy' in the family's home, should be considered a necessary price for some families to pay. Especially when the alternatives to having this periodic visual monitoring of the child could mean removing them from their families, or living with the increased risk of less monitoring of the child. Some people will argue with the ethics of such measures. Some will see it as a step too far, but the fact is that we are not going to be able to stop or turn back the clock in marching towards becoming a more surveillance society.  We can, realistically, only expect to slow down the increasing encroachment of the surveillance society.  So, I would, am arguing, it makes good sense for social work to make more and appropriate use of all the relevant technology available to it.   Which the profession could use to reduce the risk which dangerous parenting, and inadequate social work practice and community support, pose to vulnerable childr

If, however, the struggle against racism were to be predicated on the basis that 'racism' is an ideology based upon the premise that people of one racial or ethnic group are/or were superior to those of another racial or ethnic group.  And that the civil society of the so-called 'superior group' were based upon that ideology and the full or partial enslavement of the other groups in the creation of wealth for the elite group.  And that that ideology and practice, either and/or covertly or explicitly continue to significantly impact the wealth and relationships between the two groups.  Then, in my view, there would be a stronger basis for both groups to work together to help to repair the relationship between the two. Black people and people of colour, indigenous peoples should not expect that white people are going to be motivated in sufficient numbers to fight for a fair society.  On the basis of feelings of guilt and shame about how some white people - because it wa

And recite to us the names of the multitudes of prophets, saints and holy men - because it has always been by men, for men and about men.  They, it seems, will not allow God to speak. Why not we ask?  Is it that God cannot speak because their God does not exist?  Why is it that these theistic religions continue to appear to have any credibility, when they are so clearly little more than demonstrable deceptions.  I guess that a large part of it is due to the fact that these religious do not allow and/or tolerate public and collective examination of their authenticity and credibility.  The more malleable of the religious faithful, have been coerced and socialised into suspending their disbelief, and to refrain from using their intellect. When they cogitate on their God and their religion.  They have been told that only their God and their religious clergy can hope to understand and have answers to the things that they want answers for.  The missing links in their religions. And, since

Not so for Valtteri Bottas and George Russell. Bottas had been having a rather terrible race, one which needed to get much better, but was to become even worse.  As his and Russell's cars make contact with each other at very high speed and spectacularly took themselves out of the race.  And yet, it was this abysmal departure from the race for Bottas, that was to provide Hamilton with the opportunity he needed to turn him race around.  His comparative victory was partly earned on the back of Bottas' and, yes, Mercedes' misfortune. Truly, the gods could have been said to have been having a hearty, if ironic laugh. Of course, as they do not speak to us humans, as usual, we are left to make of it what we will.  What is clear, is that all the drama of the 2021 Imola Grand Prix resulted in a most exciting and enjoyable race.  All the more so, as neither Bottas nor Russell sustained any serious bodily harm from their spectacular crash.  Something for which they, the racing indus

Whether the vulnerable child's mother's volatile partner might not have been upstairs hiding under the bed.   And how they, the lone worker, had not felt empowered to ask, to demand, even, that the mother allowed the worker to have a look around the house.  Or of how, not having another pair of eyes, ears and different mind-set.  Had failed one tired and jaded worker from picking up on a vital clue which would or could have a significant bearing on how effectively the child is safeguarded. I would also argue that more use should be made of smartphones and strategically sited security cameras in the homes of children who are at high risk of harm.   But who are still living with the parents and/or carers who are considered to pose that risk to their children.  Yes, it is the case that the human rights of both the child and the parents and family have to be considered, weighted and taken account of in the assessment and planning of the safeguarding plan for the child.  Neverthel

Secondly, when Hamilton resisted and fought to regain the position at the bend, his car suffered some damage as he and Max made contact with each other.  While Hamilton was able to settle himself back into his now P.2 position and kept up with Max, he would later lost this position.  As a momentary lapse in his racing data processing resulted in him making a wrong call in his racing execution, and resulted in him running off the track.  As we watched anxiously, contemplating whether this was how Hamilton's race would end.  After what seemed a longer pause than it really was, the Master put car 44 into forward motion  from a stationary position, while putting on all the lock to the left he could.  But, instead of clearing the barrier in front of him, Hamilton was only able to give the barrier a forceful knock.  But no, this was not to be the end of his race, as he succeeded in reversing his car and safely made it  back onto the circuit.  This debacle had cost him a lap in the , an

A Very Big Congratulations to Team Red Bull and Max Verstappen, and Team Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, and McLaren Mercedes and Lando Norris, for finishing the second Formula 1 Grand Prix of the 2021 season in P.1, and P.2 and P.3 positions respectively.  Congratulations to all the racers and teams for your participation in the race, and for making it as entertaining as it was! At   the Imola Circuit in Italy. Not many people would disagree that this, the second race of the 2021 Formula 1 season, was both a dramatic and spectacular event.  This track is probably one of, if not the most ' extreme' of the Formula 1 circuits. It behaved, during the Practice, Qualifying and race sessions, like an 'unbroken' horse.  Allowing only those racers who gave it the 110 percent vigilance, concentration and application it demanded of them, from start to finish, to remain on its back, as it were.  The least lapse in concentration and mastery, could result in even the most accomplish
