Secondly, when Hamilton resisted and fought to regain the position at the bend, his car suffered some damage as he and Max made contact with each other. 

While Hamilton was able to settle himself back into his now P.2 position and kept up with Max, he would later lost this position. 

As a momentary lapse in his racing data processing resulted in him making a wrong call in his racing execution, and resulted in him running off the track. 

As we watched anxiously, contemplating whether this was how Hamilton's race would end. 

After what seemed a longer pause than it really was, the Master put car 44 into forward motion  from a stationary position, while putting on all the lock to the left he could. 

But, instead of clearing the barrier in front of him, Hamilton was only able to give the barrier a forceful knock. 

But no, this was not to be the end of his race, as he succeeded in reversing his car and safely made it  back onto the circuit. 

This debacle had cost him a lap in the , and at this point he might have been able to finish the race, if all things had remained equal or continue on the trajectory they were going. 

But certainly not in the P.2 position he finished in, after the gods, again, intervened. This time by contriving another incident which saw the Safety Car intervening, and presenting Hamilton and Team Mercedes with the opportunity to derive a kind of victory out of the apparent jaws of defeat.
