This is a short video of a walk by the canal, with natural sound, as it were. Take a look and see what you make of it, and enjoy, if you will.

TURKEY'S 'FAILED' COUP - HOW WILL PRESIDENT ERDOGAN RESPONDS?

Image
President Tayyip Erdogan and his government will have woken up today, feeling a great sense of relief, relief that, at least in this episode of the saga between him and his opponents, he and his government appear to have won this one. Parts of the Turkey's military initiated what might transpire to have been a premature and not well-planned attempt to remove the government by means of a botched coup, instead of through the normal 'democratic' process, which the President has been able to skilfully engineered to consistently results in favourable outcomes for him and his Islamist Party and government. So far, it is probably not surprising why some amongst the military might have, wrongly, concluded that a coup, though lacking in any legitimacy except for that which can be acquired or commanded out of the barrels of guns, might be the only successful method of removing the President and his ruling party. One wonders who saw this coup coming, probably except for t

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE MIGRANT IN ME

Image
The migrant should expect to give up some of their conflictual and potentially conflictual ways of life, for the security of the host country, if they are to avoid recreating the conflicts from which they are fleeing. So, the migrant travelled from afar, braving and risking his/her life by entrusting it and that of her/his children into the clammy and deadly hands of the people smugglers, hoping to be taken to the promised land. A land free of war, free of death and destruction. A promised land where, they hope, there  will be good samaritans waiting to welcome them, like long lost  relatives, and usher them into places of warmth, with food to eat, water to quench their thirst, and a quiet place for them to cry and release their pent up frustration, fear and anger. All of which have become so much a part of them during the days, and weeks and months which they have travelled to get to this, the promise land. But now, the migrants are told that they are not welcome anymore, bec

The Agile Crow

This is a short video of a Crow displaying its agility in staying perched at the top of a tree, despite the challenging breeze. Take a look. Apologies to readers who saw this video before I corrected it, as it mentioned Blackbird, instead of Crow.

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - MURDER OF OVER 80 FRENCH PEOPLE - THE EVIL SOME MEN DO; WHY?

Image
The thought of a mad person, someone who, before now, might have been thought of as a fellow human, taking a truck and using it to kill scores of innocent humans, women, children and men, is extremely difficult to comprehend. It is an act which is too callous, too barbarous, too inhuman; so much so that it beggars belief. It is a truly incredulous act. What madness, what evil could have replaced the conscience of such a person that causes him to relinquish his membership of the human race, and become the living embodiment of evil incarnate? To commit such a despicable crime? To slaughter so many humans in such a brutal and callous manner? Why? It is difficult to comprehend how such a man, who was born of woman, loved by his mother, his father, and his family, could have climbed into a truck, casually threw his humanity out of the window and clothed himself in demonhood of the worse kind, and then drove off to use his truck to crush the lives out of so many innocen

SOUTH SUDAN - A COUNTRY BEING DESTROYED BY ITS SCHEMING LEADERS BEFORE IT CAN BE BUILT INTO A NATION?

Image
What dream or vision do Kiir and Machar have for the people of South Sudan? There really is too much madness going on in the world, notwithstanding the fact that there are lots of good things going on as well. Of course, while it is good for ones sanity to be mindful that it is not only bad things which are happening, it really is the case that the 'good things' are fine and do not need the attention of the world, whereas the bad ones, the wars, conflicts, famine, corruption and strife, which appear to resist all attempts to improve them, or to do so as speedily as the particular situation seems to demand. Take the case of that newly created nation, South Sudan. This country was carved out of Sudan, a country inhabited by people of Arab African and African African, if you will, origins, and comprising a number of different tribes, or ethnic groups.  Sudan is a country which has experienced decades of instability, including inter-tribal and inter-regional conflicts, in

THE MAY REVOLUTION - DOES PRIME MINISTER MAY INTENDS TO START A SOCIAL REVOLUTION IN BRITAIN?

Image
It will not be all calm sailing, and the desired outcome is not certain, but the voyage has to be undertaken Theresa May is probably undoubtedly a woman of resolute qualities. She has presented as being tough, committed and firm in her determination to succeed in whichever political role she had been given in previous governments. We have seen an example of this in how she doggedly pursue her set objective to have 'terror suspects' removed from Britain, even despite strong opposition form international bodies such as the HRC.  We have also seen that Theresa May is not timid or reticent about taking on vested interests in Britain, as she had done in the pass in challenging the Police Federation, to their annoyance, and to her discomfort, by their undiplomatic response. Yes, for all her apparent gentility and even probably a little taciturn nature, Theresa May is, like the former and late British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, a tough politician.  She is wel

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - AVOID BEING AN 'URBAN SPOILER'

Image
So, how does concrete, stone and sand impact on the consciousness and aesthetic nature of humans? Harshly and coldly, you might think. Which raises the question of why do some humans seem to take a certain brutal disregard for the upkeep and aesthetical needs of their gardens?  Why do they, somewhat sadistically, turn all the land in the front of their houses - because, a house lacking a garden does not fully meet the criteria, for the purpose of this 'thought', to qualify as a home - into a 'concrete jungle', or a gravel pit? Is it that those of us who appreciate the beauty of a reasonably well arranged and kept front garden, are just sentimental and soulful people who do not want to miss every opportunity to touch base or be at one with nature.? Whereas the 'urban spoiler' has no love or time to do his or her bit to  give nature a foothold in their and their children's lives? Consigning themselves to the cold and wholly impersonal wo

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - ARE ALL INNOCENT LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH?

Image
The life of all humans are of equal worth, irrespective of their roles in society, as non has any intrinsically different value Is the life of the leader of a nation, of any greater value than that of any of its ordinary citizens? Is, for example, the life of President Obama, or any member of Congress, of greater worth, than, say, the life of Alton Sterling or Philando Castile, or any ordinary white American? My contention is that the answer is an emphatic and uncategorical,  no; all lives are of equal value.   The fact that a rich or powerful man or woman can temporary 'save' his/her life by paying someone to protect them, does not make their lives more worthy than the ordinary citizen who goes about his/her business without the airs or aura of the rich and the powerful.  The President is, by virtue of the fact that he is head of the nation, a very powerful man, but, his life, when all is said and done, is just as valuable as that of any other man or woman or chi

PEACE AGREEMENT BETWEEN COLOMBIA AND FARC - NEED TO MAKE IT SUCCESSFUL (ACUERDO DE PAZ ENTRE COLOMBIA Y FARC - Necesidad de que sea un éxito)

Image
You can sometimes put things in to context more and get a better perspective when you come outside and meet others and look back into your 'world.' There is no joy or sense of victory to be had in seeing dozens or hundreds of young men and women dying and being maimed over the years, as the Colombian armed forces, with the assistance of the Americans, battle the fighters of the Colombian FARC movement. If it has resulted in any elation, it is likely to be by the Colombian military. The news that the negotiations taking place between FARC and the Colombian Government have now resulted in a ceasefire and disarmament agreement, is to be welcomed. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia have been battling the Colombian military for decades, in a vicious and merciless guerrilla war which has resulted in thousands of Colombians being killed and maimed. During the this war, as tends to be the case in all wars, the civilian populations have suffered a great deal, a

SHOULD THE NEW BRITISH PRIME MINISTER CALL A GENERAL ELECTION?

Image
HMS Brexit 'Great Britain' about to leave the European Port, with Captain Theresa May in charge! Politics and life in general, in Britain, has recently become very uncertain and apprehensive.   Prior to June 23rd 2016, the British people and their government appeared to know exactly where they stood nationally and internationally.  Their Chancellor of the Exchequer knew what he was doing to manage the British economy and how he was attempting to balance and navigate it through the dangerous Straits of Austerity and  Economic Stimulus. Britain, as I said, knew where it stood in the world and in Europe. She was an integral and substantial member of the European Union, although there was and is much about the structure and functioning of it which she does not like and wanted to change. And then, one shell-shocked morning after the Brexit Referendum in June, the British people awoke to find that the ground had shifted massively and, apparently, irrevocably from under

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE NATURE OF PROFOUND SOCIETAL CHANGE

Image
The Sun has seen the past, the present and the future, while humans endeavour to create our own future As I see it, profound change, in this case, societal change, will normally arise from revolutionary forces, which partially or wholly transform the existing social order, by getting rid of the primary and secondary key players and institutions which are responsible for its maintenance. This kind of change can be extremely blood and destructive; sometimes resulting in the devastation of the country and its infra-structure, as we have seen in the attempted Egyptian rebellion and the even more deadly and destructive Libyan revolution/invasion.  It goes without saying, that this is the kind of change which everybody of goodwill would want to avoid; not least because it raises serious questions about the legitimacy of the 'new social order' and sets in train the seed for its possible or probably demise or overthrow at some future point. The other kind of social ord

A View From Our Garden on an Early July Night.

Image
As no moment in time and space is probably the same, there is probably - that word again - only little danger of any of us pointing our camera at 'the same thing' and the 'same time and space' and not 'capturing' something different, even if the eyes of the onlooker have to be more discerning to detect the difference. This is another video taken of and from the vantage point of my garden, with the trees, the effects of the cool and rustling breeze, combined with the backdrop of the natural and artificial light impacted night sky, create its only unique imagery. Take a look and enjoy what pleasure it might radiates for you.
