JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON WHAT MIGHT BE THE 'TRUE ESSENCE' OF US HUMANS. PART 2.

After all, we can see the other non-human animals, so it clearly is not the case that they do not exist. I and we can see them, therefore, they exist, in a real, tangible and objectified sense. 

 Whether or not they have any sense or state of consciousness, of being able to perceive of themselves as separate beings or members of the community of similar beings. 

 Although we can make all sorts of hypotheses about the metaphysical world, both real and imagined, but there is little doubt about the 'realness' of these animals. 


Why, we can and do touch them, feel them, and even kill and eat them. So, how can there be any doubt about their realness?

 So, could it be that the 'core', the 'essence' of me, is that I and others can see 'me'? 

 That 'I' can see and perceive, become conscious of of 'me' being seen by 'myself' and by others? 

 Could this be my core; my essence? The fact that I and others can acquire and retain a mental image of 'me'? 


The acquisition  and keeping alive 'a state of me-ness'?

 So, both I, humans, and animals, can be seen, can see ourselves and see others. 

 At least, the primates amongst animals, so, beyond the point of different animals, including humans, building and maintaining different kinds of habitats and societies. 

 It might be the case that, probably the most profound difference between us humans and other animals.

   It is unlikely that things were ever getting better.   So, what are my thoughts about Hamas' unprecedented attack on parts of Israel, which has resulted in hundreds of men, women and children, some of them soldiers, being killed and thousands of Israelis becoming shocked and traumatised as they have probably never experienced before?
