DONALD TRUMP, RODRIGO DUTERTE, TAMER, BREXIT, ET AL, WILL NOT BRING AN END TO HUMAN PROGRESS!

Image
I f you were to believe much of the commentary following on from Donald Trump's election as the US' President Elect, you would think that the world is coming to an end. His unexpected election victory, for the very reason that it was so unexpected, has provided a feed-fest for the profits of doom. It has become a matter of dread for those who are looking for signs that the world is about to end. That 'Rome is in decline', and the 'barbarians are at the gates' of civilisation. But, is this really what is happening; are 'the Barbarians' really at the gates of the 'civilised world', waiting to lay siege to it and bring it down, brick by brick? I suspect that that could be so, but that it is unlikely to be the case What is likely, however, is that the rise of the nationalists and the right and far-right activists, who see the Trump/Rebublicons, and Brexit 'victories' as inducements to come out and make their case to the electorates i

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - WHY ARE WE HUMANS BEING DENIED THE RIGHT TO END OUR LIVES AT OUR CHOOSING?

Image
How is it that governments and societies, considering themselves 'humane and civilised', come to think nothing of condemning humans to such dreadful states of being, of existence, probably even seeing it as compassionate? Providing them with palliative care, where they are maintained on a drug therapy regime to keep them 'pain free', while their lives, their living, is left to 'come to a natural closure'? Now, I do not argue for a society in which any man, woman or child should be denied palliative care, for as long as they want  and need it. That is the right of any person, according to the values and resources of their society. What I do argue for, is that people should have the right to choose to bring their lives to an end, if they choose to make that decision, and that that right should not necessarily be predicated on whether that person has a terminal or degenerative disease, or is of a certain age. Of course, there is a case to argue that, th

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - WHY ARE WE HUMANS BEING DENIED THE RIGHT TO END OUR LIVES AT A TIME OF OUR CHOOSING?

Image
So, consider this: there are times when a critically ill animal, such as a dog, the proverbial 'best friend of humans', or a cat, that at times most charming and invasive of our 'pets', are euphemistically 'put down'. Usually on the premis that their condition is incurable and that, putting an end to their lives or putting them out of their misery, is the 'most humane thing to do. And so do society, painlessly, send such sick animals on their way to oblivion. Not so, with us humans, who, by the paradoxical laws of our societies, are condemned to live and stay alive in conditions or states which would be considered cruel and inhumane for animals! Why, and how can this be so? There are times when society and the law is more concerned with the quality of the life of its animals, than with that of humans. It seems obvious that, the concerns of the guardians of society's legal and moral compasses, when it comes to human lives, are not about the

The Pigeon That Wanted It All!

Image
This pigeon has a deformity of one of its feet, which causes it to limb. I am not sure if it is the same one I have seen in the past. What really amazes me about this bird is the fact that, although there is enough food for other pigeons, it will not share the food I have given it, as it adopts the approach of 'its mine, and i want it all.'  What has happened to sociability. Please take a look at this video and see if you find something pleasurable or contemplative.

THE BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX - VERSTAPPEN'S INTREPIDITY AND HAMILTON AND ROSBERG'S MASTER-CLASS!

Image
Lewis has done it again, making it 3 consecutive wins in 3 races, having, as he might have characterised it, easily won the Brazilian Grand Prix on the Interlagos circuit.  Nico, having survived the earlier scare, as the Verstappen The Intrepid, bounced on him after one of the 5 episodes of the services of the Safety Car being called upon, maintain his composure and came in at P2. Thereby  making it another 1, 2 for Mercedes. And what can anybody say about the Verstappen The Intrepid, who, having the difficult choice of sticking with his rapidly degrading tyres and trying to maintain the P2 position he had snatched from Rosberg, or darting back to the Pit for another tyre change, chose the latter option. After which he exceeded his earlier 'I will get you if time cannot save you approach', to complete several exciting overtakes and win a Podium position by coming in at P3. And so, after a spectacular, and probably the most eventful rain and SC and Red Flag dom
