A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE 'EASY LIFE' AS A THREAT TO HUMAN ADVANCEMENT

Image
THE HUMAN BODY AND INTELLECT NEED TO BE CHALLENGED BY THE ELEMENTS IN ORDER TO ADVANCE AND DEVELOP THEIR FULL POTENTIAL The 'easy life ' is not good for the body or the ergo sumness of humans. The body needs to have appropriate challenges for it to develop or realises its full potential, in the lifetime of its owner and, intergenerationally, contribute towards the evolution of the human specie.  For reasons such as these, a living which insulatess us from, at least, regular but not overwhelming hardships is likely to weaken the body and its pedigree.  Similarly, an intellect - ergo sum - which is  not  challenged by the environment in which its owner lives, and or have access to, is not going to develop hi/her full potential as an individual, and make their intergenerational contribution towards the advancement of the humans specie. We can, for example, see this situation in societies in which the state and/or religious authorities places restri

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE HUMAN CONDITION

Image
Cooperating and building together ensures prosperity; separation and conflict results in destruction and poverty, giving rise to more conflict, destruction and poverty.... As human beings, depending on our geographical, cultural, ethnic characteristics,  educational and political origins, are very diverse, except in the most essential of our attributes. The fact that we all are susceptible to pain, distress, sadness, sickness and death. More positively, we, as humans, share the ability to express our joy, our delight, our happiness when something pleases us or appeals to us. Be it the birth of a baby, the unlikely rescue a person, even a stranger, from the clutches of death, the opening of a new dam which is going bring water to irrigate our parched fields and bring more food and prosperity to our village, the building of a new school which is going to educate our children, or when a son or a daughter or other relative gets accepted to go this or that school, or college or

WAS BREXIT A TROJAN HORSE FOR BRITISH RACISTS?

Image
Countries such as Britain are already multi-cultural and this has to be the starting point; not trying to 'reclaim' the past, at the cost of a better and more inclusive future. Diversity amongst people, like with business, is strength. On the back of the British electorate, by a relatively very small majority, having decided that they want the country to leave the European Union, the problem of racism has, again, become highlighted in Britain. People of Polish origins, for example, have began expressing their fears for their safety in Britain, and there have been reports of Polish premises being targeted. People from other countries and/or ethnic groups have also started to express their fears for their safety and their uncertainties about what is in store for them and their children in the 'new post-EU Britain.'  For example, people from the other EU member states are now wondering what will happen; how will their status in Britain be affected, after

RELAXING WITH B B KING

Image
B B King was a person I admire both for his music and for the kind of man he was.  He has given birth to some beautiful, soulful and bluesy music, such as are on the CD, BB King, His Definitive Greatest Hits, which I am listening to at present. With tracks such as "Help the Poor..", "I am so Excited..", "Rock Me Baby", "In the Midnight Hour," and "Woke up this Morning.' I suspect that B B King had a difficult life, and he was also aware of the difficult living which his family and African Americans have had to and, in many cases, still endured. This, most probably had helped to inspire B B King into making and performing the music which he has acquired mastery over.   The chances are that he was probably a political man, as everybody probably is, to different degrees, but like many, B B King did not have to wear his politics on his sleeve to make his contribution to the advancement of humans. As I said, beautiful music

LEWIS HAMILTON'S AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX - LEWIS MAKING HIS OWN LUCK?!

Image
The Austrian Grand Prix has just ended, with Lewis Hamilton having converted his Pole position into winning the race.  It was a very eventful and spectacular race, providing probably the right balance between good and misfortune fortune for many of the teams, including Mercedes. It was a race that saw Sebastian Vettel, once again this season, having a promising race ended, spectacularly, in this case, with one of his rear tyres exploding pyrotechnically, and bringing out the Safety Car.  Kvyat also saw his race coming to a very premature ending as well. And, although Lewis Hamilton won the race, after driving beautifully, including having a good start, it was only after some very pulsating driving to overtake his team mate, Nico Rosberg, in the last lap of the race.  This was not without incident, as, following what later transpired, Nico had a brake problem which compromise his car's management, and contributed to his and Hamilton's cars colliding at one of the

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE UNTENABILITY AN OMNIPOTENT GOD

Image
As millions of people remember and pay homage to the millions of people who perished in World War 1, it is an apt time for us to reconsider our theories about gods and omnipotent beings who have the power to safe us from destroying millions of lives and, in the process, probably our own specie. In order to do the occasion 'justice', the recreated atmosphere in thousands of churches, and other places of worship, and town halls over the globe, will be one of contrived sadness and humility, as people endeavour to put themselves into the mindset which would have befitted the world during 1914-1918, as Europe lost her head, and drenched the continent in blood. As an aside, it might also reminds us of the irony of the British Government taking Britain out of the European Union. It is ironic, as I have argued previously, that, we humans, should find it necessary to regularly torture the living by annually revisiting the time and spaces in the past, where humans have per
