THE TRAGIC BUT TEMPORARY LOSS OF PALMYRA - A CASE OF MACHIAVELLIANISM OR NEGLIGENCE, OR BOTH?

Image
The sudden recapture of Palmyra by Isis/Daesh and Syrian rebels provides a powerful shock to both the Syrian coalition fighting them, and the interested on-looker to the Syrian proxy war. How can it be, that Daesh, after having been driven out of Palmyra over 9 or so months ago, secreted themselves back into the surrounding neighbourhoods in such large numbers as to threaten and then retake Palmyra?  The loss of Palmyra can be seen as somewhat on par with the loss of Mosul, Kirkuk and Kobane, in its suddenness and unexpectedness. What happened to the Syrian coalition and meddling western countries intelligence? Are we really to believe that the Russians, Syrians, Hezbollah, Iranian, American, British, French, German, Iraqi, Turkish, et al, had all been taken by surprise? Could it be that none of them had cottoned on to what Daesh/Isis and their rebel alliances were up to? Would that not be the height of gross negligence and incompetence by some or all of these military for

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S REAR-GUARD ATTEMPTS TO SAFEGUARD HIS LEGACY!

Image
President Obama, in the dying days of his regime, and with the failure of his Democratic Party to nominate a winning presidential candidate tosucceed him, is having to be fighting an acute but persistent rear-guard action to defend his diminishing legacy. This is the situation he faces as President Elect, Donald Trump, continues to make clear his intention to erase, not only much of Obama's national legacy, but also his international legacy and reputation, in terns of the foreign policies he has pursued in his 8 year reign.  We are, it appears, being confronted with the impression that President Obama's legacy will, after The Don takes the helm, be like the lily which flourishes today, but dies tomorrow. Of course, the concern is not just about President Obama's legacy being destroyed, however great the loss of some of it will undoubtedly be to those people who are benefiting from it. The bigger concern is that President Elect Trump has given the world notice of

Alls Well With Our Garden That Is Well!

Yes, this is another video showing the transformational changes which our garden is making, the pace of which change is being influenced by the unpredictability of the climate. If you will, please take a look and make something or nothing of it, as you perceive it.

BORIS JOHNSON, THERESA MAY AND PRINCE SALMON AND THE KILLING OF THE YEMENIS! PART 1

Image
Colloquially put, there is a lot of unseemly shit going on in the Middle East for a long time, with each succeeding government in the west simply tagging their own wagon onto the existing wagon train. This unseemly spectacle is not only affecting what is happening in Syria, but also in Yemen, one of the poorest countries in the world, and one which Britain has been trying to subdue for many decades. First, by direct military intervention, and, presently, by way of proxy intervention, utilising the Saudi Arabians and their Gulf States allies. The British, American and Saudi alliance has been bombing Yemen back into the past, and has been killing and maiming its inhabitants on unprecedented scale. It has, to some extent, been able or sought to 'bury' its crime under or behind the massive propaganda campaign which the west is prosecuting against the Syrian, Russian, Iranian and Lebanese axis, which is trying to defend Syria from the attack by the West and ISIS/Daesh.

A THOUGHT FOR NOW - HAS THE PENTECOSTALIC AFRICAN DIASPORA GOT THE RIGHT RELIGIOUS BALANCE? PART 2

Image
Yet even in such a potentially torturous and child abusive, but 'normative' environment, that did not stop me from enjoying much of my childhood. Like each and all fellow humans, I would have to find ways of dealing with the induced and socialised guilt which would emanate from breaking any of the Ten Commandments.  But that could be done over a period of time; especially as I have never espoused or been taken prisoner by the Catholic faith, where a lowly sinner could have all of his/her 'sins' miraculously removed by the dispensation of a priest. Even back then, no observant cognisant child or adult could have failed to observed the duality of what passed for religious practice. Such as how the religious hierarchy used their faith as a mark of privilege and opportunity to gain power, money and the affection of women. Such privileges they could rationalise on the basis of some obscure or commonplace record in this or that religious text. So, it is pr

And so it was that, upon listening to the last minutes of the BBC's Radio 4 Sunday morning religious programme, I was fortunate enough to hear one of those stirring religious songs, which, as Christmas fast approaches, elicit from me an esoteric emotional response. Yes, my response was not a religious one, considering I am more attached to the theory of evolution than to that of creation.  However, it was esoteric because my response drew upon an early childhood and early adulthood which was, to a significant extent, forged in what you could described as a religious upbringing. Of course, this upbringing was not one which was characterised by piety or great humility and abstention from what might otherwise be perceived of as the normal pleasures of the living of a 'normal' human. No, it was a life which was lived in fear of  a deity called 'god.' A fearful being whose motto was 'a life for a life', 'an eye for and eye', 'a limb
