PRESIDENT TRUMP, THE UNETHICAL? PART 1.

Image
There is, in my opinion, something profoundly unethical in seeing President Donald Trump sitting in a room with a group of businessmen, many of them probably holding senior positions in big multinational companies, and flanked by  Republicon politicians standing over them. ~The Don was his inimitable and opaque self, giving no indication of how what he was doing is really impacting on him. At the same time, his audience, both the businessmen and the other politicians appeared contained and restrained; a bit as if they feared the man in whose presence they are in. So, why am I so concerned that the President of the United States of America should be meeting with American businessmen, to discuss business and how to keep and bring back jobs to their country?  I am concerned because I suspect that this is no simple and straightforward 'business meeting', where the businessmen - come to think of it, I am not sure there were any women taking part; probably there were none is th

And so it is, that, like the acorn seed which has all the necessary coding for growing into the oak tree which is its ultimate fate.  So does the egg of the female human has all the genetic coding for the fetus, baby and adult human it is destined to grow into, probably mimicking the evolutionary history of humans, as it does so. Marvellous, mysterious, complex and fascinating, but, still not need a god to make it what it is and to explain it. Freed of the erroneous obligation to bow down to any purported supreme being or gods, and being guided by the principle of human responsibility and accountability for all of  our actions, be they 'good' or 'evil', 'commendable' or 'deplorable', the humanist is able to feel empowered.  The humanist accepts that their destiny is already determined, just as that of the theistic religionist or believer. The humanist lives in the full knowledge that this destiny is to die and return to the dust and energy for

JUST A THOUGHT - PRESIDENT TRUMP AND PRIME MINISTER MINISTER IN LEAGUE? THE END.

Publicly the government makes much about the 'will of the British people', but, privately, it is likely to be cursing the electorate which voted to leave, and those who wanted to remain, but did not bothered to go out to caste their votes.  How often is the fate of a nation determined or influenced by what people failed to do, instead of what they did? After all, the vote to leave the EU was like buying a ticket to 'Somewhereland' without the captain having a detailed map of his/her destination, or really knowing if 'Somewhereland' really exists.  No wonder the last captain of SS United Kingdom, David Cameron, decided to walk the plank, following the 'leave' vote of the referendum. How could any self-respecting and rational government thank its people for placing it in such a terrible predicament? A dilemma which leaves it not really knowing what to do for the best? A dilemma which places it in a position where, probably irrespective of w

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON STATES OF BEING. THE HUMANIST. PART 3.

Like the theistic religionists, the humanist is able to appreciate the beauty and mysteries of life, of the environment, of the natural world, and ponders the origins of the almost infinite variety of life forms, including their own.  The humanist is, like the theistic religionists, fascinated and, if he/she is to ponder it for too long, overwhelmed by the apparent complexities and commonalities of these life forms.  By the differences between the lower order  ones and the more highly evolved ones; the primates. The fact that they have critical organs which function, like clockwork, as it were, to give and sustain their capacity to breathe and to live.  The essential beauty and of the bodies of the primates, the agility and flair of their movements. Movements which have been emulated by humans in their evolution of dancing, singing and art forms. The relentlessness of the primate's intellect and ingenuity, and their capacity to propel the advancement of their habitat

JUST A THOUGHT - PRESIDENT TRUMP AND PRIME MINISTER MINISTER IN LEAGUE? PART 1.

So, I am not sure, I should confess or declare, whether Theresa May, Britain's Conservative Prime Minister, is not displaying indecent haste in presenting herself at the court of Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America.  She, I gathered, will be the first head of state to visit The Don, in his court, seeking favours from a President who has already declared that his guiding principle, in leading, or misleading, his nation, will be that of 'America First.' Is this a case of 'birds of a feather flock ...?' Having abandoned Europe, her continental motherland, some would argue, Prime Minister May, somewhat like a proverbial 'dog without a bone', is, if I were to be mean in my characterisation of her and her Brexit endeavour, appears to be trying to 'get in there first', so as to try to succour favour from The Don.  Most probably at the cost of her European mainland colleagues, and that of the other countries which Don
