Pike Ahoy?

Image
This looks to me like a Pike which has probably outgrown this section of the canal. Its movements seem to be imperceptible, more hoovering than moving, you might conclude. There might even be an issue regarding the health status of this fish, of a very large fish in a small section of this canal. What story lies behind this unusual sighting? Please take a look and see what, if any emotions it elicits from you.

BREXIT AND BRITAIN - A CASE OF CRYING OUT LOUD TO BE BREXITED! THE END!

Image
And from this, we can appreciate that the damage has already started to take place.  The process of Britain leaving the European Union is tantamount to possible death or destitution by haemorrhaging. In a paradoxical way, the British government is pursuing Brexit as if it was a religious dogma.  an article of faith which must be followed irrespective of its cost to the businesses, the workers, the nations which will have to pay the cost; including the British people. What is my take on it?  Simply this; that the United Kingdom should not leave the European Union, but return to the fray to try to effect the vital reforms which the bureaucratic head of the EU is badly in need of.  As I have argued previously, another referendum should be held in Britain, to elicit the current position of the British electorate, regarding whether the United Kingdom should leave the EU.  This second referendum should require at least 70 per cent of the electorate to vote, and a similar p

SCENSION OF EMMANUEL MACRON TO THE FRENCH THRONE - HAIL THE PRESIDENT, KING, OR EMPEROR? THE END!

Image
It is not that President Macron did not say anything commendable and pertinent in his inaugural speech. It was just that he was very bland, flat, uninspiring and emotionally constrained. There is, in my view, an absence of momentum and drive about the President.  The enthusiasm which preceded his election, and the fanfare and euphoria which followed it has now abated.  His inaugural speech, seems, again, to me, to be noticeably flat and lacking in the spirit of rebirth which he said he wants to bring about.  It was not of the standard which would have done justice to the sumptuous and historical grandeur of Versailles Palace.  And now, we must await President Macron, who, from a business-man perspective, in the mould of President Trump, engaging in battle, with those sections of French society whose interests his policies threaten. As he goes about, probably autocratically, attempting to remake France into his vision of the kind of nation he thinks it ought to become.

AL JAZEERA'S WORD AND THE SAUDI ALLIANCE'S SWORD! THE END!

Image
Al Jazeera has been making a great contribution towards journalism and media development.  To informing the people of the world, including in those Arab and Muslim countries which have not banned it, of how history, current events and their governments are impacting on their lives.  Compare this with what countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the UAE countries have been doing. And you are left with the perception and realisation that it is a comparison between darkness and light; between 'truth' and If the Saudi coalition, in their unjust and criminal attack on Qatar, were to succeed, and result in the demise of Al Jazeera.  Then that could be tantamount to a reassertion of a period of darkness enveloping the Arab world again.  It would represent a setback for the progressive forces which are struggling to survive in, not only Saudi Arabia and the UAE countries, but also in much of the Muslim world.  It would also represents the destruction of

ASCENSION OF EMMANUEL MACRON TO THE FRENCH THRONE - HAIL THE PRESIDENT, KING, OR EMPEROR? PART 1.

Image
' Were it not for the fact that France is a secular Republic, might President Emmanuel Macron had himself Coronated as King or Emperor of France and her overseas territories?' For a country which has prided itself in its 'republicanism',  the choice of President Macron opting for Louis X1V's imposing Versailles Palace to make his inaugural speech to the French government, and people, is rather perplexing.  Not least, because it could be that Macron wants to signal to the French people that he wants to 'get to the future by way of returning to the past.' For a government which is based on President Macron's  En Marche Party, the symbolism of the Palace of Versailles does not speak of going 'forward' or 'onward.'  Instead, it speaks of a movement which wants to return to the past. Of a government that wants to return to what might be said, to have been 'the old tried and tested ways' of the past.  It has more than inci

AL JAZEERA'S WORD AND THE SAUDI ALLIANCE'S SWORD! PART 1.

Image
'Such is the nature of the Sword, that it is one dimensional, and is only able to speak the language of blood and carries the threat of it.  Not so with the Word, which is multidimensional, versatile and innovative. The Word is able to speak both of evil and good, of arrogance and of humility, of hope and despair, of fear and deliverance, of rights and freedoms, and of oppression and submission.  It can be more objective than the Sword, because, of itself, it is not able to realise any threat or violence which it threatens or suggests.  Unlike the Sword, which speaks only of threats and violence.  Thus the difference between the Saudi Kingdom and its alliance of oppressive Middle East states, and the Al Jeezera media network.' Al Jazeera is, in my and other people's view, a very powerful and hard hitting media organization.  It covers the news and political, social, historical and cultural events fairly objectively.  Probably being one of the mo

ACTS OF TERRORISM ON MUSLIMS SHOULD BE SEEN AND PUNISHED AS SUCH - AN OPINION. THE END!

Image
The same applies to the man who is suspected of having squirted acid on the British Muslim couple, causing them life-changing injuries.  There is, in my view, little difference between these miscreants and the Muslim terrorists who have carried out numerous attacks of terrorism against innocent people in many European countries, most recently, in the United Kingdom.  We need to move away from categorising these crimes on the basis of factors such as.  'Who carried them out', 'how many innocent people were killed', 'whether there is a political motive and or an organisation behind them' and 'what is the believed or known motive of the perpetrator/s?'  This is no more than an insufficient and politically contrived formula for determining what is or is not 'terrorism.'  It is this anomaly which has led to acts of terrorism, carried by governments, whether it is the Syrian government, or the Saudi government, or the American and Nato
