So, consider this. Why do the governments of so many countries allow some of their citizens, and sometimes foreigners. To so irresponsibly destroy their environment and natural resources, in their oftentimes unscrupulous search for gold and diamond? In many countries, probably more so the developing and poorer ones. We can see, yes, poor people toiling for hours, days, months and even years, destroying their countries' forests, water supplies, and setting up the fundamentals for erosion and landslides. All in their quest to find so-called precious metals. Metals whose value is weighed primarily in terms of their monetary value, since they have limited utility value. Now, it is understandable that one might want to argue that poor people, who might have no option but to try to eke out a living by despoiling natural resources, which they do not own, should not be prevented from doing so.
