So, consider this.  Why do the governments of so many countries allow some of their citizens, and sometimes foreigners. To so irresponsibly destroy their environment and natural resources, in their oftentimes unscrupulous search for gold and diamond? In many countries, probably more so the developing and poorer ones.  We can see, yes, poor people toiling for hours, days, months and even years, destroying their countries' forests, water supplies, and setting up the fundamentals for erosion and landslides.  All in their quest to find so-called precious metals. Metals whose value is weighed primarily in terms of their monetary value, since they have limited utility value. Now, it is understandable that one might want to argue that poor people, who might have no option but to try to eke out a living by despoiling natural resources, which they do not own, should not be prevented from doing so. After all, most of the harm, the destruction and pain being suffered by humans are being caused by other humans.  So, why not make our prayers and pleas to those humans who really do have the power to stop much of our suffering.   Instead of looking to 'the middle man', to the gods, who seem oblivious to our constant prayer and pleas?  Indeed, it might even be the case that, if the gods had really existed. They would have been fed up and frustrated with what could be perceived as our continuous moaning, and refusal to take responsibility for putting right, what we have made wrong. It is Sunday, again, the blessed day when Christians flock to their churches and to celebrate their god's day of rest, and declare how great they believe that he is.  And, yes, as I tend to do, I did listen to the BBC's Radio 4 Sunday Worship, which, this week, came from a church in Scotland.  From ST Andrew's and ST George's West Church, in the City of Edinburgh.  The service was conducted by the Rev. Ian Gilmour, who, I have to frank, was not able to compete with the inspirational tranquillity which exuded by Father Brian D'Arcy, last week.  Rev. Gilmour, it transpired, was more akin to what might have been expected of a Calvinist preacher, with the service been too steep in formality and lacking in entertaining humility. But, as all of these services are wont to do, Rev. Gilmour did cite the conflicts and avoidable tragedies which are continuing to beset the world and be sources of distress for humans.  He commented on murderous attack

Pity the West Indies cricketers who have been blasted off the Edgbaston Cricket Grounds by the masterful and entertaining display of cricket, by their English Test Cricket Team.  Big Congratulations to the English Team for having won the First Test of the Series with such a devastating desplay of professionalism in their cricketing.  By the end of the first day of the first Day and Night test series. The English team has effectively blasted the pitiful West Indies team off the field, first with their bats, and then with the ball.  Winning the first test by an innings and over 200 runs, after having made more than 500 runs in their first innings. This embarrassing defeat for the West Indians is likely to saddened their first generation West Indian-British cricket fans.   Who might have been hoping to be entertained by what they might have expected would be some solid cricket from the sons of their countries of origin.  Something which might have reminded them

Consider this.  That the President of the United States of America could be elected for a second's.  Would that not be a nightmarish scenario?  Yes, I am aware that it is possible, inasmuch as it is said that all things are possible, but certainly not all things are likely or probable.  And many would hope dearly, that it is unlikely that Donald Trump will indeed get a second bite of the most esteemed of American apples; a second term in the White House.  So, imagine my level of discomfiture, when I heard a journalist commenting on how the departure of Steve Bannon from the White House could result in Donald Trump's campaign for a second term could be compromised.  Yes, there we go again, with having to accept that it is possible that Donald Trump could be a bigger masochist than he is a sadist, and elect to run for a second term.  After all, is that not the pattern of most of America's presidents, that they tend to run for a second term?
