AS I SEE IT, CATALAN FOR INDEPENDENCE MIGHT BE PULLING BACK FROM THE BRINK! PART 1.

Image
Mr Puigdemont has offered the Spanish Government an olive branch. Mr Marianio Rajoy and the leaders of all the Spanish regions should take hold of it and negotiate a settlement which brings stability and peace back to Spain, while maintaining the integrity of the State.  These negotiations could be used to address other contentious regional issues, and should therefore be allowed the necessary time address them. Standing in the Catalan Parliament, its leader, Carles Puigdemont declared that Catalan has won its right to declare its independence.  But that, in order to allow time for talks to take place between the Catalan regional government, and the Spanish central Government, and between Catalans themselves.   He is suspending the independence for a matter of weeks. Thus giving himself and the Spanish central government the necessary space, and, hopefully, the time, to step back from the brink. It is not difficult to declare a country or a people to be independent, w

JUST A THOUGHT - WHEN FEAR OF DEATH MAKES AN ASS OF THE LAW, LEADING IT TO DENY PEOPLE A DIGNIFIED DEATH. PART 3.

About 10 years ago, I had the ambivalent occasion of attending the funeral of a relative.  A young man who was several decades younger than I was at the time, but whose life had been cut short by a cruel and insidious, a pernicious degenerative disease.  This young was diagnosed with Muscular Sclerosis when he was probably no more than in his twenties.  With the trigger having been the realisation that he was retaining an abnormal amount of fluid in parts of his body where it was not normal Why was the funeral of this young relative was a cause of ambivalence, you might be thinking?  Well, it was, because it was most definitely a cause of sadness.  But it was also a cause for feeling relief, that this young man did not have to continue to inhabit the parallel world in which he had, was forced to be 'entombed,' for probably for a decade before he physically died.  I say physically died, because we could not tell or be certain that he had not, for all intents

A CONVERSATION WITH GOD - PENULTIMATE PART!

T.: Ah, G. Much as it pains me, I am only too aware that it is one thing to argue against the the irrelevance of god in the world or 21st Century humans.  But that it is quite another thing to expect that humans will turn their backs on you for many centuries to come.  Because, whether they/we know it or and are ready to admit it, we have internalised god.  We are god, and have come to credit our perceptions, our personification of what and who you are. We have made you into being the source of all that is good and desirable.  We have deified the 'good' which is within and without us, into the embodiment of 'god.'  This is the 'reinforcement' of the faith and belief which the faithful have in you.  And, while there are humans, there will always be more than enough evil in the world, to 'convince' humans of the need for having a god. G.: Yes, I can see how you have come to that conclusion, T. Which is really an inescapable one.

Therapist.: I can detect a marked elevation in level of animation, Usa! Are you feeling excited while you are talking about guns? Can I test your pulse and blood pressure? Usa.: Sure you can, be my guest, man. Therapist.: Yes, Usa. My suspicion is correct. There is a marked level of elevation in your pulse rate, blood pressure and your heart beat. Do guns and talking about guns always have this kind of effect on you, Usa? Usa.: Guns have this effect on everybody, man; why wouldn't it? Guns is power, man, and using them makes you feel powerful! Therapist.: So, Usa, do you love guns, and do you like using and firing guns? Usa.: Do I like guns and like using them? What kind of question is that, man? I am America, and Americans love guns. Sure I like using them.  My Constitution has given me the right to own and use guns. My laws make it legal to do so, so why wouldn't I like to use them? Therapist.: Do you not think that the fact that you use them to ha

Namely that, because a region, province or country only have people of one or mainly one ethnic origin, let us say, all white, or all black population or mainly of a single ethnic origin, then their is no need to do nation building work in it.  But this is clearly not the case, as we can see in Spain, with the Catalan government's referendum on seeking to become independent. With South Sudan, which have become independent, only to continue the conflict by converting it into an inter-tribal one. It is the case that some people have tended to include Scotland, which is one of the 4 regions of the United Kingdom, into the discussion about the rise of regional push for independence or session.  While it is understandable that it should be included in the debate, it is also the case that we need to consider the differential history of how each state was formed and maintained.  What seems clear, is that, while it is pragmatic and crucial to have regional administration

Therapist.: What do you mean, Usa? Do you think that other people, countries are thinking that you deserve the pain and distress which you are inflicting on yourself? Usa.: Well, logically, it is not right, is it? I mean, you have to be honest with these thinks.. Therapist.: 'Honest', Usa? Do you mean you are not being honest, with yourself? Usa.: I don't know. Well, I should know, because it has been happening for so long now.  I mean, how could I blame you if you think that I am bloody stupid? That I a suffering from some kind of mental illness? I coudn't, could I?  Or, rather, I should not blame you or anybody else for thinking that of me; should I? Therapist.: What do you think, Usa? Should you or should you not blame others for thinking you are stupid or mentally ill? Usa.: Well, it is tough, man. I don't know, even though I probably should know. Therapist.: So, Usa. Do you know the answer as to whether you are stupid, mentally ill or not.
