JUST THOUGHT A THOUGHT - ON CHINA-AFRICA PARTNERSHIP; A RELATIONSHIP FORGED IN GOODWILL AND TRANQUILITY OR...? PART 3.

Can promote and protect existing mutual prejudices, ignorance and antipathy which exist in the African and Chinese psyche. There is currently a great fear within the world, about immigration and countries wanting to 'protect and immunise' themselves from both the reality and their fear of having new comers moving into their countries.  Because of this fear, it is crucial that the cirucmstances and condition under which Chinese entrepreneurs, immigrants and workers move into Africa, is planned in an auspicious way.  The fears of the African people, as well as of the incoming Chinese people have to be openly acknowledged, discussed and and addressed.  So that mutual understanding can be achieved, and appropriate action taken to reassure and address the identified fears. So that President Xi Jingpinp's 'win, win' goal can be achieved and manifested. It was on this need for more 'people to people', as opposed to government to gover

Having concerns is nothing new. There are concerns about why the British is in Africa. About why the French, the Germans, the Americans, the Saudis, the Turks, and others are in Africa.  Indeed, we could justifiably ask the question: Why are the Africans, the South Americans, the Asian and the West Indians in Europe, in the United States and in Asia?  Broadly speaking, except for explorers, people normally move from their places of birth, their homelands, for economic and commercial reasons.  To have a different and/or better livelihood, and not for reasons of charity. The same applies to governments, including that of China. There reasons fall in the category of geo-political, economic, religious, social and, yes, 'racial.' Let us begin with last first, the issue of racial differential. Although it is not the case that all Chinese and Africans share a mutual dislike and/or suspicion about each other.  There is undoubtedly some mutual unease betwee

JUST A THOUGHT, ON SYRIA AND THE BATTLE FOR IDLIB - A NECESSARY PRICE TO END THE WAR? PART 3.

Image
The interested West, in general, and the American, British, French and Saudi Arabian and Sunni alliance which have continued to support the rebels and Jihadists in Syria.   Want to continue to use Idlib as a bastion against the legitimate and sovereign government of Syria.  They want to effectively carve out and secure a de facto autonomous status for Idlib, from which to continue to pressure and attack Syria's sovereignty. So, it is only right and proper, as the old adage goes, that the Syrian government should begin waging the final battle against the rebels in Idlib, as a matter of urgency.   Before they become even more entrenched in the province, and strengthen their ally of convenience with their western and Saudi and Sunni backers.  Before this creation of 'fact on the ground', becomes even more consolidated and more of a 'justification' as to why it should be seen as having an independent or autonomous status.  It is

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON WHETHER HUMANS CAN AND SHOULD COMMUNICATE MORE WITH OUR ENVIRONMENT. THE END...

Image
Probably the best way forward, is for us to reestablish and develop the kind of homogenous and complementary relationship which our ancestors had with our environment and eco-systems.   We do not have to all become alchemists, but we do need to return to 'our roots', and maintain an appropriate balance and respect for nature. ~ And not sacrifice it in our quest for an uncertain and, on the basis of the evidence we have so far, an unsustainable paradise.  Our ecosystem is our mother and father, our, our doctor and our begetter, and we and other species cannot survive without living in harmony with it.  It has much to teach us, and we need to become more diligent and scholarly students. It will look after us, if we reciprocate. If we take a new perspective of our floral and faunal world, and not just see plants as something which should be gotten rid of. This new or renewed relationship will require us to relate to our floral, or plants as if they rea

DEAR SERENA WILLIAMS, ON REFLECTION, DO YOU THINK AN APOLOGY IS IN ORDER? THE END....

To your fans, to the profession and to what should have been a great moment for Naomi Osaka.  And, yes, to Carlos Ramos, the Referee. For a person of your standing to have treated Carlos Ramos like that is no small thing.  You are a person, a woman of great stature. Compared to Ramos's position and standing, for you to have behaved towards him in that manner, could be perceived as 'oppressive' and, probably  humiliating and disrespectful.  The fact that the profession might have been turning 'a blind eye', on coaches who have been flouting the rules, by 'coaching from the sidelines.'  Would not have detracted from the fairness of Carlos Ramos deciding to follow the rules in calling it the way he saw it.  Accordingly, to say that Referees do not sanction male tennis players for their coaches breaching the rules by attempting to coach them from the side lines, is not a sufficient 'justification' for taking offence

But might, indeed, because of your particular circumstances, weight more heavily on your, at times bruised shoulders and temperament. Dear Serena, it is given to you to be a Role Model to millions of people, and nobody wants to be a 'bad role model.' You are a role model first and foremost, as a human being.  A role model for people who aspire to play tennis the way you do, and to emulate your achievements on the court.  You are a role model for people who are and who want to join the campaign against sexism and misogynism. A role model for people who want to fight against man's inhumanity and oppression  towards their fellow humans. Dear Serena, what I am trying to say, is really what you most probably already know.  That you got it terribly wrong in how you dealt with the challenge you found on the Tennis Court in the US Open Final Match against Naomi Osaka.  That is not you, it is not who you are, Dear Serena. You were tempor

Upon Serena Williams having lost control of her emotions, which we all do at times, during the Final of the US Open Tennis tournament.  And venting her feelings on the Referee, Carlos Ramos, in a manner which she is likely to regret. This is what I would say to her. Dear Serena William, I do not know you personally, but I have know of you and have been seeing you, on the TV, playing great tennis for many years now.  You do not know of me, just as you do not know of the hundreds of thousands, most likely millions of people who have been watching you play tennis for since you have become a professional tennis play.  I, like millions of other people, have been inspired, humbled and fascinated by how you and your sister, Venus.   Have risen from the humble origins from which you have originated.   And how you have been nurtured and guided by your equally humble and devoted father, into conquering the very pinnacle of Tennisdom. Your jo
