SAUDI ARABIA, YEMEN, THE UNITED STATES, KHOSHOGGI AND TRANSPARENT TRUMPISM. PART 5.

Image
Is it the case that Jamal Khoshoggi 'has become one of us', Americans, in a way that murdered Yemenis have never and could never become?  And even then, it has been government of Turkey which has done most to keep the heinous murder of Jamal Khoshoggi in the public arena.  It is the Turkish government which has probably done most to prevent and nullified the attempts of the American and Saudi governments to bury the murder of Khoshoggi.  It is the Turkish government of Tayyip Erdogan, that bogeyman of human rights advocates of both Turkey and the world in general.  Which, paradoxically, is doing so much to prevent Saudi Arabia and her western allies from burying the publicity surrounding Khoshoggi, along with his as yet unaccounted for body. Something which Saudi and the UAE has tried to achieve by attacking Hodeidah, probably with the aim of deflecting attention from the cry for justice for Khoshoggi.  How despicable that, in their attempt to deflect

JUST A THOUGHT - ON HOW 'FAILING COUNTRIES' IN THE AMERICAS CANNOT RESOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS BY RETURNING TO THE 'OLD WAYS.' PART 12.

Image
So, no. The migration of the world's poor, of the poor and gang violence ridden countries of the Americas.  Is not a practical or viable solution to a problem which is really about resources. And how they are accumulated and distributed, and the social and political system of the countries affected.  Everybody migrating from their poverty and destitution stricken countries, or parts thereof.  Is not a viable solution to the problem which is and has engulfed the 'countries which have and those which have not', and the 'people who have and those who have not.'  No, it is not! Neither does the solution lies in 'building fences and walls and reinforcing our borders' to 'keep them out at all cost.' The problem is largely about resources, and their creation and distribution.  Of their allocation between peoples, nations and countries.  It is therefore a problem of economics, politics, civil societies, governments and the relat

ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX - ANOTHER WIN FOR TEAM MERCEDES AND HAMILTON, AS SEASON CLOSES! PART 1.

Image
Probably one of, if not the biggest asset Abu Dhabi's Yas Marinas Grand Prix Circuit has to offer Formula 1 and its fans and the public, in general.   Is the fact that it is on this track that the final or last race of the Formula 1 season is held, annually.  It is the 'omega' of the annual season, the place where it all ends, for another year, even if, by then, the Drivers' World Championship and the Constructor's Championship have already been decided.  The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, therefore, should be a place and event where all the teams should be able to race without the crushing pressure of having to protect their accumulated points or acquire points.  They can exhale at the ADGP, which, is not a particularly spectacular circuit.   Notwithstanding its series of obtuse corners, which, arguably, have been compensated for by straights which are capable of enabling some very exciting overtakes.  As it has been our pleasure to witness from Vers

SAUDI ARABIA, YEMEN, THE UNITED STATES, KHOSHOGGI AND TRANSPARENT TRUMPISM. PART 4.

The British and the French are also steep in trading with the Saudis, and would probably bee keen to take up any slack a 'moralistic' approach by the Americans were to create. Still continuing along the pragmatist route, President Trump can hardly be expected to wash his hands of the Saudis.  When his country, along with the British and the French, and, probably the Germans, to a lesser extent, have been busily supplying the Saudis and UAE.   With all the weapons and logistics they need to kill and maim Yemenis and destroy their country and make it into a failing state.  If all this killing and destruction of Yemenis and their livelihoods have not moved Americans and the world to bring irresistible pressure on the governments of USA, Saudi, British and French to end the genocidal conflict in Yemen.  Then why should the foul and despicable murder of Jamal Khoshoggi, become the 'straw which breaks the back of the Saudi camel,?  What is it about Jamal K

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 8.

Image
Because my dear mother, it seems, some would say it is a definite, is unable or unwilling to give praise and compliments to others.  In the same abundance, fluency and consistency that she dispenses her displeasure with things and people alike.  Sometimes not really differentiating between those she loves and/or relies on, and others less so.  Having the seemingly enduring tendency to focus on what they have not done, and/or on how badly they have done what they have done.  The end results, for my dear mother, is what counts most of all, and not the effort and goodwill which might have gone into endeavouring to meet her high standards. And yet, even at this eleventh hour, all is not lost, because, more recently, I have noticed that my dear mother is being somewhat more philosophical about her aches and pains.  Her acknowledging that she is not satisfied with somethings, but that she is not able to change them.  She still, of course, endlessly repea

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON HOW WALKING THE EXTREMIST PATH DOES NOT MAKE US 'EXTREMISTS.! PART 3.

Image
Yes, we become the practitioners of 'extremism.' The 'extremists', are killers and torturers, and, in order to get rid of them, to fight them effectively, 'we the good guys', must also become killers and torturers of the 'extremists' and their supporters.  Which is not something we can do without getting blood on our hands, without surrendering some of our innocence and even more of our humanity.  As we move towards the edge of not only 'thinking like the extremist', but also 'acting and becoming like them.' And, of course, this paradoxical transformation, which has to be made in 'the fight against extremism', is probably not as big a challenge for us humans, as we might think.  It is the same kind of paradox which sees us getting on with our fellow humans today, and engaging in murderous conflict tomorrow.  Believe it or not; we are all set to become 'extremists' in certain circumstances.  This we c

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON, IF GOD EXISTS, THEN..? PART 6.

Image
'Who, in their more contemplative and logical state, would find anything wrong with the statement.  Let no woman, man or child, argue that God, or the Gods, are more powerful than Man, unless the God/s of whom they speak, is no other than the selfsame Man, who has the power to destroy or save the Man-made world.' Or the absence of positive intervention by this or that deity, might be rationalised as them meting out 'just punishment' on humans, for some supposed sins, which they, or their predecessors have committed. So, I return to the title of this post; 'If God exist, then? Then was does that mean?  For a start, it would mean that the religions which have been shameless propagating the constant refrain of 'God loving humans', of 'God's everlasting love for us'.  Are blatantly and knowingly lying and deceiving both the 'believers' and the non-believers.  Put simply, this God of which they speak so devo
