IS PRESIDENT TRUMP AT RISK OF 'MAAFSING' AMERICA?
It has been said Donald Trump, the President Elect of the United States, has been bankrupted twice, as a businessman. But, never mind such misfortune, he has clearly bounced back and became the successful businessman he now is, and which has helped him to catapult himself into the White House, against most expectation.
He is, today, where he is, on the pinnacle of more successes, or further bankruptcies, but this time, as POTUS. Failure or success this this time, will not be limited to the person fortune of Mr Trump and his family and business partners, but will have their impact on Americans and their country, as well as on many countries globally.
The world will witness and bear the impact of President Donald Trump's attempts to treat America and the world, for his diagnosis of America being 'sick' becasue it is not the great anymore. For which he has prescribed the 'MAGAtisation' America. Apparently, he and his disciples believe, at a more cost-effective package than 'Obamacare.'
In order to make America great again, to 'make it First' in all things, not equal to other countries, but to put America at the top of the hierarchy in all things, to 'me-imise', to 'egotise' America. The Presidential Don intends to make America a country which attributes value to things, to ideas, to policies, on the basis of their money-making prospects, and upon the 'self-interests' or selfishness of America. President Don, even more than President Obama, wants to made America's 'exceptionalism', on America's 'pre-eminence', unparallelled.
No more, it appears, will America, be driven to work collaboratively and cooperatively for the achievement of the greater good for groups of countries, or all countries, for the good of humans, during the presidential term of President Don. Instead, America will primarily be motivated by 'the go it alone' approach. Or the 'use other countries for what you can get out of them', approach, which, if more obliquely, has always been the approach of the driving principles underlying America's foreign policies.
And in order to 'magatise' America, President Trump and his unholy disciples will be focusing on things such a making 'bilateral trade agreements' with different countries. A kind of 'divide and rule' strategy, if you like, instead of the more collectivist approach of agreeing multilateral trade agreements. So, ok, granted that multi-lateral trade agreements are a bit like the international 'cartelisation' of trade between the parties to the agreements, which are oftentimes to the disadvantage of the countries excluded from those trade blocs. That does not mean that President Trump's 'America First', approach is going to do anything to mitigate this kind of weakness inherent in multi-lateral agreements.
The point is that, in the approach President Trump and his disciples intend to implement, with the USA being such a vast country and market, it will be using its 'bear-like' clout to make agreements which are primarily to its advantage; not the other partner to each agreement. The principle of, 'to our mutual benefit', it seems, is not one to which the Trump Administration will pay much heed.
To be continued.
