COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS AND GIVING THANKS AND PRAISES. PART.3.

Well, some people might be of the opinion that those who have reasons to give thanks and praises should be giving it to god, to Jesus, to the Virgin Mary, to the priests and the prophets.

However, I am looking closer to 'home', as it were. I am not concerned with the prophets, priests or with the gods.

None of whom, as far as I can tell, have ever been able to directly respond to anybody's call for help, without some deception being involved.

No, it is my contention that we should be giving thanks and praises to the people who are directly providing the care, the help, the comfort and the assistance or convenience which we need.

God, Christ, the prophets and the priests are not the ones who are helping the lame person to get up in the morning, get dressed and fed, and helped to get through the day.

It is their carer, who might be their relatives, neighbour, friends or a paid employee.

And it is to them whom thanks and praises should be given. It is not meaningful to rationalise such help on the basis that 'the gods' have intervened, by mysteriously 'arranging it', so that these helpers and carers can be there to help the person in need.

After all, how can such rationalisation stand up to scrutiny, when it is considered against others who need help, sometimes even more desperately, but do not get it? It cannot.

However much some people might want to justify it on the presumed or assumed goodness of the one, as opposed to the other who does not have any help.

The motor car or bike, the train or bus which you conveniently jumped on, is not provided by the gods.

It is to us humans and our ingenuity for which we should be thankful and loudly and persistently sing our praises.

Your pace-maker which assists the functioning of your heart, and on which your life has now become somewhat dependent.

That vital and successful operation which has now given your life new vitality.

And has caused you to be more appreciative of the joys of being alive and of the need to live your life more fully.

To be continued.
