MEXICAN GRAND PRIX/2017 FORMULA 1 DWC - VERSTAPPEN AND HAMILTON ON TOP ! THE END!

Why, we asked ourselves, is Valtteri Bottas not catching Verstappen, and is instead falling back relentlessly.  So that, by the end of the race, he was probably nearer to his team mate that to the leader of the race?

Not surprisingly, many of us, probably including yourself, Lewis, did contemplate the improbably; that you might not finish the Mexican Grand Prix!

It is therefore not surprising that many of the fans, the watching spectators, might felt that they/we have been robbed of the sense of elation.

Which we would certainly have felt, which you would have felt, Lewis, had you won the 2017 Drivers' Championship from the Podium, instead of from the unfamilarily of P.9.

With you placing yourself at P.9 having become such a major achievement, in a phenomenon race, it was not to be.

However, as Nikki Lauder and Toto Wolff have observed, winning the Driver's World Championship is still winning it, from which ever position.

An observation which cannot be denied. Even if you, Team Mercedes, might consider it to be somewhat of a slight, an anomalous situation.

Which  might benefit from being 'corrected' with Team Mercedes-Hamilton-Bottas winning one or both of the last two races of the 2017 Season.

After all, it seems inconceivable that the Team fail to do so, and end the Season with atypical and feeble performances, thereby feeding the impression that 'they are losing it.'

That Team Mercedes have peaked and are declining. That they will become easy meat, to be gobbled up by the baying and intrepid young wolves, young warriors in the 2018 Formula 1 Season!

But for now, it was good to have an eventful Grand Prix, one which has, at least for more laps than many of us found comfortable, reminded us of how fickle racing can be, and how much can depend on the gods of fortune.

That, either that nothing goes wrong, or that, if it does, it should not be beyond being recovered, as has been the sad case of Team Ferrari-Vettel's attempt to win the 2017 Formula 1 Drivers' World Championship.

As we have seen in the case of Ricciardo and all the other disappointed drivers whose race came to an end, before the Checkered Flag was waved.

However, just as the Sun and the Moon shines on all, in their allotted time, and the tide of the ocean rises and flows, in turn. Sunday 29th October 2017, as far as Formula 1 racing is concerned, belongs to you  and Verstappen, Lewis.

So savour your much deserved and worthy wins, guys.

Before you, Lewish, and Team Mercedes return to planning how The Team is going to re-acquire the integrity and performance optimisation of all integrated systems, team, drivers, and, probably most crucially, its cars.

So that TeamMercedes-Hamilton-Bottas can complete the unfinished business of the 2017 Season, by achieving another grand prix win; or two!
