INDIA-PAKISTAN INDEPENDENCE AND SEPARATION - A SUCCESS STORY? PART 1.

Image
Seventy years is a damn long time to be separated from one sibling, which is what India and Pakistan really are.  The British bureaucratic who ruled India, before it granting it its independence, must have been masters in the business of suppressing their disaffected subjects.  Something which the Indians and their separated Pakistani sibling seemed to have learnt well. Judging by them having been probably just as successful in suppressing their now independent citizens. So, following their independence,  the people, or, rather, the leading politicians competing for power, decided that they could not live together.   Now that they have been deprived of the one thing which had been help to uniting them; the British colonists.  With the numerous principalities being anxious about their survival in a post-independent India. The leading politicians opted to dividing India into two separate countries.   Based on largely religious affiliation, with creation of a pre

KENYA'S ELECTION - THE BEST MAN WON AND KENYA'S FUTURE IN SAFE HANDS!

If I believed in god, I might now be thanking him for any part he had in ensuring that Raila Odinga did not win the Kenyan election, and become the President of that country.  Quite simply, Raila is not fit to become the president of Kenya. He is more of a tribalist than a unifier of a nation comprising people of different ethnic groups, religious persuasion and political spectrum.  Not so with Uhuru Kenyatta, who is proving himself to be a true statesman. The national leader whom Raila could not become, even if he had the inclination to be.  Which he seems not to have. Because what people like Raila want is power; power for itself and to exercise it over people. He might also want power because of its money making potential.  He is probably not interested in having power to build Kenya and improve the lives of all Kenyans, but to have it to exercise like a tribal chieftain. While President Raila Kenyatta calls for unity and for all Kenyans to come together and wo

JUST A THOUGHT - JUSTICE DENIED OR NEGLECTED IS FREEDOM AND LIBERTY SUSPENDED!

So, consider this. You have been convicted of the commission of violent or other indictable crime, for which you have been justly sentenced to X number of years in prison.  However, not satisfied that you have been given sufficient punishment, the court then take the risk assessment report by the Probation Service into account.  And, as misfortune would have it, said Probation Service, looking into the future, and taking on the persona of an ancient Seer, Witch Doctor or Shaman.   Weighing up the gravity of the offence/ies for which you have been convicted, concluded their report by predicting that you will.  In future, i.e., after you have completed the 'normal sentence', still represent a high risk of doing harm to members of the public.  Based on this prediction of future risk of you committing future offences, the court then decides to give you additional years of incarceration.   By giving you IPP, or Indeterminate imprisonment for public protectio

JUST PHILOSOPHISING ON MATTER OF RELIGION - BE PREPARED TO APPRECIATE BEAUTY WHEREVER ...

Yes, us humans can do ourselves such great injustice, when we insist on viewing others and the world through the prism of our 'black and white' spectacles and mode of interpreting things.  When we are unable to break free from the axiom, the self-evident truth that we humans are the 'product' of our environment, our upbringing, our socialisation.  When we are or have become unable to think differently from the imprinting which is transmitted to us from the distant past, by our traditions, our cultures and our particular world-view. When we become, as it were, preset to interrogate and respond to internal and external stimuli in a particular way.  W hich then reinforces what we do, how we do it and the eventual outcome.  All of which means that, if a given society is xenophobic, prejudiced towards other people for whatever reasons, it will continue to be so.   While it holds on to or refuses to change those aspects of its traditions, cultures an

USAIN BOLT'S UNTIMELY EXIT FROM SPORT'S CENTRE STAGE. THANKS FOR THE PLEASURE, MAN!

Image
Jamaica's great sport's champion and world's sport's super-hero, Usain Bolt has blessed international athletics with a phenomenal few years of top class athletics.  Like the bolt out of the blue, Usain Bolt has infused the world of professional sports with the enthusiasm and the confidence that athletes are really capable of running super fast races.  The belief that there are still young men and women out there, yet to be [discovered' and trained to take of more seemingly impossible seconds of the world records for track and field events.  And, at a time when it is possible to become multi-millionaires from sponsorship, and when doping and cheating appears to have become the norm in professional sports of various kinds, do so without having to resort to cheating. And so it has been, that the small island of Jamaica, which has already gotten a reputation - both for positive and negative attributes - much bigger than its 4,243 square miles.   Ha

JUST A THOUGHT - THE RISK OF TAKING OTHER'S PERSONAL HYGINENE IN TRUST!

Image
As humans, we cannot know or expect or be expected to know everything which is likely, at one time or another, to impact upon us.  Such as the effect of people who, avoidably, pursue dirty and unhygienic practices.  Those people who, notwithstanding the ready availability of water, will not wash their hands before the prepare foods and drinks which they will serve to others, or to themselves.  Be it to members of their families or the public. People who will go to the toilet and have a pee, and then zip up and leave the toilet or urinary with scarcely a thought about washing their hands before doing so.  People who, despite you attempt to indicate to them that something is amiss, that they should behave in such reckless manner, display a certain blatant unawareness.  Quite clearly because this is, for them, the norm; it is how they always behave. If a person goes into the privy or toilet and does not bother to wash his/her hands after having a pee, then it is re
