A JAMAICAN CHILDHOOD - REFLECTIONS ON. PART 5.

Image
The family's kitchen was a separate structure, made of bamboo thatching, and its roof made of coconut leave thatching.  The kitchen has an earthen oven and a wood burning fireplace for cooking.   The toilet which Shaka and the family used was situated several yards from both the kitchen and the house.  This was made of board, zinc roof, and had two seats built into a raised counter or platform, situated above a wide hole dug several metres into the ground under it.  A cause of great fear for young children who had to use these toilets, was that they would fall into the cesspit below.  Part of the preparation for using the toilet would be that you acquire some leaves from the surrounding trees, such as coffee trees, to use to wipe yourself.  Going to the toilet during the dark nights would normally require two people, with one remain outside to hold the kerosene lamp. THE MAGNIFICENT MOON GOD!

Image
This is a rather short or long video of the Full Moon, in the sense that it can be seen fully, or more fully than at other times, when it is partly hidden by how it is aligned with the Earth. Do take a look and see what you think. I better experience might be evoked, if you apply some patience to the process. Although the uninitiated among us might oftentimes take the Moon for granted, and demonstrate ignorance towards it value, it is truly like a God in its importance as one of the Planetary bodies which contribute toward the evolution and sustenance of all life.

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 46.

Image
As we aged and are impacted by the ravages of time and systemic degradation. No longer, it seems, is my dear mother able to process, analyse and make sense of the data which is bombarding her, daily.   As well as she had been able to do, prior to her becoming what I have come to perceive as her tendency towards being deluded by it.  The information or data which she perceives, is not always or probably even most times, being perceived as I or 'more rational persons', would have interpreted it as being.  Something which makes it more likely for her, my dear mother, to become afflicted by the emotional and psychological distress we can experience.   When the demons within us temporarily escape their suppression by our rational mind. Just as how, according to our particular beliefs, when the gods or the inhabitants of 'the spirit world' intervene in the physical world of us humans.   To be continued!

Which, when it rained heavily, would cut the district off from the rest of the neighbouring districts, such as Surge Island, Bath, Seaforth and Whitehall.  Due to the district being cut of by the Johnson River, running from its north-west to south-east, and the inaccessible hills and mountain ranges of the Blue Mountains running along the length of its northern boundary with the parish from that of Portland.  A major problem for the village, and one which the authorities would try to relieve.   By cutting a road in the wooded and hilly loose soil land in the east of the village, towards Whitehall.  An act of folly which resulted in major erosion problems, as the now denuded soil fell prey to the heavy rains and caused major erosion problems for both the new road and the affected lands surrounding it. The family lived in a two bedroom house, made of timber, with its roof made of sheets of zinc.  To be continued!

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON HOW NOTHING MATTERS, REALLY, BUT THE LIVING!

Image
But what of me, of my beliefs, which ?  Like the religious person, I, also, am being guided by the desire to achieve particular goals and ends.  Now, the ends and goals which we, the religious and non-religious, aspire towards achieving, in this life, might be similar or quite similar.  Especially where they relate to what are our basic needs, such as food, drinks, warmth, housing and socialisation.  Where they might be markedly different, is when we begin to contemplate the unknown dimension or domain, such as what happens when we die. Of course, when we die we die and are dead. Yes, there is a great deal of finality about the end which is the cessation of a once living person.  When time and breathing and the functioning of the heart stops. When the light goes out in the brain and  consciousness irrevocably cease and the process of physically rapid biological decay begins.  Because of our lack of empirical knowledge about any on-going personal 'out
