JUST A THOUGHT, ON WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM HISTORY.. P. 4.

Even if, in realising their mission, they might and will almost certainly repeat some of the follies, mistakes and bad and terrible things which we are fated to do.  Yes, it will be humans who are seemingly 'not learning from the history of past humans', but it will be different generations of humans doing so.  We also have to learn from history how to meet and surmount the challenges and obstacles.  Which making our path through life, under different internal and external environmental conditions,  have presented us with.  We, like our ancestors, have the accumulated knowledge and ability which are coded into our genetic makeup, and is being expanded upon by succeeding generations.   Our power to avoid the costly 'mistakes' like wars and other human-induced catastrophes are limited.   And, in the case of wars, while some people will indeed be committed to developing a 'culture of no-wars.'  The developers and purveyors of t

CONTEMPLATING ON THE ILLUSORY NATURE OF MAN'S QUEST FOR 'PARADISE' OR JANNAH PART 1.

Image
The concept of us humans being able to  experience   a state of  paradise , or  Jannah , after our motal bodies perish, in the form of what we could perceive of as the ' ultimate garden. '   Is nothing short of a massive illusion arising from an equally massive self-deception. As Judy Judy would say; 'it aint going to happen.' However attractive it might be for some people.  There is no evidence or probability of it, of the departed gathering in an exotic garden, and living forever, while consuming the sensual pleasures of the Earth, ever having happened.   Nor being likely to be realised at sometime in the future.  Which is probably why the emphasis is also placed on 'paradise' or 'Jennah' being a state yet to be acquired by humans.  Meaning that us humans can only navigate our way there, by first dying.  And then, only providing we have, of course, lived our lives on the Earth according to the manner prescribed by the self-pro

Or whether we are humans who, unlike other species of animals that continue to record and pass on knowledge non-verbally to their descendants.   Use the spoken and written language to record and pass on the history of our experiences on and around Planet Earth. Well, so much for the ober dictum aspect of this post, which I might expand on another occasion and time. Back to the matter of, what we can learn from 'history.' Yes, what we have to learn from history is that we are fated to repeat it.  Which, when you think of it, is not surprising, since the present is a repetition of the past.  The our present is what will make the history of future generations, but we do not see it, our present living, as the making their future.  Even though, in their turn, they will or might perceive it as such, but still want, still be motivated to live it according to their aspirations and inclinations.  To be continued!

IS SECULARISM THE ONLY MEANS TO A PEACEFUL WORLD? PART 1.

Image
For someone who does not believe in a sentient God or gods, you might find it a bit bewildering that I really do enjoy visiting old churches, churchyards, cemeteries and striking Cathedrals.  Which have apparently been built in celebration of or declaring the greater glory of God.  Yes, I marvel at the handiwork of the great craftsmen and probably women and the faithful who have made these monuments, which, though they no longer speak of the power of God.   But rather of the people who built them, with less advanced tools than we now have.  I have also seen Muslim mosques and Sikh temples, although I have only been in the latter on one occasion, and have not been in the former.  And yes, I am impressed and amazed by their magnificence. But again, while the faithful might see them and their magnificence as attesting to the glory of their Gods.   To be continued!

JUST A THOUGHT, ON WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM HISTORY.. P. 2

History,  it is said, is a 'great teacher'. But in truth,  'history' , especially human history, and you might be thinking that only us humans have the perception, the concept of 'history.  'History ', which we could define as the accumulated knowledge and/or record of salient occurrences taking place over a period of space and time. The fact is that, ' history ' is neither a good nor a poor teacher; it is not a teacher at all. Although it is, indeed, a thing, a subject, a record, written or memorised or past events.  Of course, it would be wrong for us to think that only us humans live within the framework of history.  Since all living things carry within our genetic pool, the record of  our history .  This applies to how we interact with our external environment, whether we are migratory birds or other animals.   With the ability to instinctively foretell and predict changes in the weather and make and execute plans to mi

RELIGIOUS DILEMMAS - BELIEF IN A SENTIENT GOD IS SIMILAR TO WORSHIPPING LIFELESS OBJECTS! PART 2.

That these physical representation of 'god', were undoubtedly not as intelligent or more intelligent and powerful than the humans who have been worshipping them.  They could do nothing for themselves; so how could they do anything for or to humans? Looking back, now, it is clear that such believers and worshippers had to suspend any disbelief they had about the powerlessness or power of these images.  How they had to debase themselves and deny their own power. So as to be in order to able elevate the images of their 'god' to the point of them becoming sacred and 'worshippable.' I can see how the Christian, Islamic and Jewish religious elites, while holding onto their own 'sanitised religious relics'.  Could attack those religious beliefs that still wanted to hold on to their 'religious props', as embodiment of 'their gods.'  To be continued!
