Or whether we are humans who, unlike other species of animals that continue to record and pass on knowledge non-verbally to their descendants.  

 Use the spoken and written language to record and pass on the history of our experiences on and around Planet Earth.

Well, so much for the ober dictum aspect of this post, which I might expand on another occasion and time.


Back to the matter of, what we can learn from 'history.'



 Yes, what we have to learn from history is that we are fated to repeat it. 

 Which, when you think of it, is not surprising, since the present is a repetition of the past. 

 The our present is what will make the history of future generations, but we do not see it, our present living, as the making their future. 

 Even though, in their turn, they will or might perceive it as such, but still want, still be motivated to live it according to their aspirations and inclinations.
