BERNIE SANDERS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN - SIGN OF AMERICAN POLITICAL MATURITY?

Watching the opposition and staying focus?

There is a lot more work for Bernie Sanders and his supporters to do in the campaign for the nomination to become the next presidential candidate, such as surpassing Hillary Clinton's purported lead in the number of primary delegates, but for now, Bernie and his supporters are busy transforming American electoral politics.

Bernie and his supporter are on the march; on a journey which they and many others, both in the United States and around the world - as it was with Barak Obama - are hoping will take Bernie to the White House and make him the next president of that country.

One of the aspects of Bernie Sanders presidential campaign is the fact that he and his supporters are unapologetically campaigning for policies which meets the definition of 'being socialist' or 'socialistic' in their nature. Thus he is arguing for state provided education and health care for the masses, and he is arguing, proposing changes which would curtail the control which Wall Street is exercising over the political and economic life of the people. Bernie Sanders wants to cut the umbilical cord which attaches the White House and the American political elite to Wall Street, and give more power to the people of America.

It seems like only yesterday, as the saying goes, when 'being a socialist' and socialism were derogatory terms the American right in general and Republicons, in particular, would use to demonise and destroy their political opponents, but not so, in this campaign.  Why the change; has Americans grown up and are now beginning to see the difference between what social policies can be, as opposed to 'scarified models' which has been used to scare them?

There was a time when Socialism was seen as what was happening in the former Soviet Union, and in Cuba, among other countries. When the emphasis would always be on the negative aspects of what was happening, such as the lack of an effective two party system, lack of 'democracy' and lack of freedom of speech. Positives such as state provided education, housing and health care would not have been given much attention.

It is somewhat ironic that some of the validity of Bernie Sanders argument for him to be elected the presidential candidate and, eventually, the president, is the fact that he is challenging a two party political establishment which is not working effectively for the people. Prior to this campaign, we have had that of the current President, Barak Obama. He and his campaign was also attacked for being 'socialist', which some people would have seen as the same as 'communist.'

Bernie Sanders is an American through and through, and a seasoned politician who has been in the American political system for decades. It is surprising that, after all this time, he should be able to demonstrate that he has not been corrupted by that corrupt system,  at least, not irredeemably so, and it is this which has added to his credibility and trustworthiness. This is something which his Democrat opponent cannot claim

Bernie's success, so far, is an indication that the American people have become more politically astute and mature, and are no longer prepared to vote on the basis of cold war imagery. They know that the world has changed and has become a global village, and that the future has to be one in which people and the state look out for each other; not a future in which only the elite thrive.

America and the world needs a Bernie Sanders, but, for now, Bernie needs Americans to continue to support him and his campaign in their tens of millions. The fact that they are supporting him shows that they are no longer being put of by the socialist label which has been attached to him, but are inspired by his message and promise to effect the kind of changes they want to see in their country.

Looking out for each other?
