A THOUGHT FOR NOW - STRIVE FOR A FUTURE NOT LOOKING TO RECREATING THE PAST

Humans should strive to create a future which is free of racism, excessive prejudices and conflict, instead of attempting to recreate the past which was bought by great pain.

There is no doubt that our individual and collective past, historically, colours, influence, and, for the more unfortunate amongst us, determine our present and our future. Humans, though most probably not the only animals which are able to do so, have the capacity to live in the past, the present and the future.  We, like other sentient animals, are able to draw on the collective and accumulated 'store of knowledge' which has become innate in us, and to conceive of and plan not only for how we survive today, the present, but also for tomorrow; the future.

Arguably, however 'great' or 'horrible' our collective past was, or, rather, because of it, we should avoid dwelling on it, since it can only bring sadness and/or arrogance, misplaced pride and hatred to our present, which we then drag into the future and perpetuate through future generations

The past belongs to the dead, and can become a burden and/or source of hostility and deception, when it is used to suppress or restrict the living and future development of a people.

For the living, being able to live in peace and reasonable prosperity is of more value than a thousand glorious, but now dead, pasts or legacies.

Endeavour to live in peace and mutual respect with your fellow humans, and work to build a world which is inspired by the love of a shared humanity, and not one inspired by the hostility and hatred of a 'dead past', to which you might subscribe.
