Michelle Obama as Melania Trump's fountain of knowledge?



So, consider this: Is Melania Trump really emulating Michelle Obama's 2008 speech, and, if so, why is the wife of Donald Trump emulating an African-American, even one as outstanding and as worthy of being emulated as Michelle Obama?

Well, yes, you might have expected that the wife of a notorious anti-immigrant, Islamophobic and probably anti-black Republicon presidential candidate, would not have wanted to associate with Michelle Obama, and, by association, her African-American husband/President. However, if you work on the principle that politics is about expediency, opportunism and eclecticism, it makes good sense for Melania to have an esteemed role model as Michelle Obama. 

By being a Michelle Obama aspirant, Melania is declaring that she - unlike her husband, Donald - is not racist, and is able to understand and empathise with ordinary Americans of all ethnic backgrounds. That, like the good 'communist' she might have been, had she been living in her native Slovenia, she knows what it is to have to work hard to achieve a better life. Of course, even if, as in her case, her husband's good fortune has probably made most or all of the difference.


So, no, it is not really surprising that Melania Trump is emulating or copying Michelle Obama. Quite the contrary, if her and her husband's and their strategists' evaluation is that they can make good political capital out of it, then it makes eminently good sense for her to do so.

We must now hope that Melania Trump does not leave her emulation of Michelle Obama there, but that she also takes onboard Michelle's compassion and genuine desire to make America and the world more compassionate and just. 

Also that her husband will do some emulation of Michelle's husband, which might enable him to become a better human. 

Then shall they begin to have understanding of the things which are and which need to achieved.

In choosing your role models, be more influenced by their humanity than whether they are of your or someone's ethnic background






Wisdom is wisdom, and its original articulator will not hold it against others who put it to good use.
