A THOUGHT FOR NOW -IF YOU WANT PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR ("Si vis pacem, para bellum".)?

Do you reap what you so? If you plan for war, do you reap war? If you plan and invest in peace, do you reap peace?

'If you want peace, prepare for war', is a much quoted saying, but one which is,in my opinion, idiotic and makes no sense at all.

So, contemplate on this, that you have to prepare for war, if you want peace. What do you do, then, if you want war; prepare for peace? And how does a country prepare, or, rather, endeavours to have peace? Yes, it does it by preparing for war.  Of course not, what a country does when it wants to make war on its own people,  neighbours or perceived enemies afar, it prepares for war. Which would lay bare the perfidious nature of the saying.

If a country builds up its army and prepares for war, how is it going to resist the urge to test them out in battle? Yes, it makes no sense. The supposition that peace can  be achieved and maintained through military might is fallacious, because it either assumes that your army is going to be the most powerful and deters those of the other countries from attacking yours, or that all countries will prepare for war, in their supposed desire for peace, and, some how, achieve a 'balance of power, or terror', which will prevail and preserve the peace. In any case, if 'peace' has already been achieved, even if probably unsecured, why the need to 'prepare for war' in order to maintain it? Would that not be like throwing explosive onto a fire?

At its root, this idiotic or, if you like, enigmatic saying, is proffering a scenario in which a country builds up its armed forces to the extent where they are likely to prevail over the armies of any actual or potential foe, resulting in regional peace being preserved because none of its neighbours dare to challenge its dominance. Consider the USA, consider the Russian Federation, consider China, each in its own sphere of influence. As many of us know, however, such 'preparation for war' only maintain the 'balance of power/terror' between the top countries, because they then proceed to test out their weaponry and fight their wars by resorting to proxy countries.

It seems to that, unless you have a citizen/army, building up your armed forces is likely to lead to internal pressures to use them, and is more likely to lead to the waging of wars, instead of the preservation of peace.

Let each human endeavours to live in peace with his/her fellow humans, and each country or nation, with their neighbours.
