ISLINGTON'S CLOSURE OF FABRIC CLUB - AN AUTOCRATIC AND ASININE OWN GOAL WORTHY OF DAESH?

Islington Council has just replaced the light in the lives of thousands of young people with darkness, with its 'jihadistic' decision to stop them having fun.

Not many of you might not have heard of Fabric Club, which is a popular night club in the London Borough of Islington, United Kingdom. It has recently had its licence to operate revoked by Islington Council, having apparently be held responsible for the death of  two young people who had taken drugs.

The Council and the Police, it seem, have taken the view that the Club had not done enough to prevent errant revellers from taking drugs on to its premises, where some people use them, leading to a minority of them paying the ultimate price of forfeiting their lives.
Ironically, the fact that Fabric is recognised as one of the clubs with the strictest anti-drug policy and practice, has not protected it from this grievous action by the Council.

Now, it goes without saying that, the Police and Islington Council have also failed to prevent young and other people in Islington using and abusing drugs, resulting in the deaths of even more people in Islington. However, neither the Police nor Islington Council would consider it reasonable for both of them to be punished, and punished disproportionately, for this failure. They would argue that they could not reasonably be expected to prevent all vulnerable and/or irresponsible or responsible persons from acquiring and consuming drugs, and, in a minority of cases, tragically dying as a result.

That approach and defence, however, has been denied to the proprietors of Fabric and its patrons. Why?

So, what could be the cost of this unjustified action by a group of presumptuous and autocratic councillors?

Yes, the sad demise of a Club which has been providing thousands of people with an enjoyable and pleasurable way of spending several hours of their time; something they look forward to, to help them to relieve some of the stress of living in an increasingly stressful environment. It also deprive the proprietors and staff of their livelihood, at a time when there is increasing unemployment, with all the risks of not having a job, such as loosing your accommodation, not being able to pay your bills, including Council taxes, and not being able to feed your family or yourself, if you happen to be single.

By depriving the community of one of its important focal points, it damages the 'soul', 'the heart' of the community, and makes it less of a community.

This stupid decision makes it more likely that more young people will be walking the streets and finding probably less constructive and responsible ways of using their free and pastime. It deprives the young of the opportunity to enjoy themselves and have fun, simply because the 'jihadistic' Councillors and police cannot stand young people having fun, and want to ban it, by closing down viable night clubs.

This is certainly not a proportionate action to resolve what is a continuing and probably unsolvable problem; that of young and not so young people using dangerous drugs and some of them dying tragically from it, in the prime of their living.

Rather, it is an extremely destructive and disproportionate action, and one which is inimical to the health and well being of the people and community whom these stupid Councillors should be serving.

Let us hope that Fabric takes the matter to court, and not allow these autocratic 'jihadistic' Councillors to have their way, which is serving no good at all, especially as it will not stop people harming themselves by consuming dangerous drugs.

Like a child's essential need to be able to play to develop, so do young people need opportunities to have fun and enjoy themselves. Which is what living is really all about.
