A THOUGHT FOR NOW - PHILOSOPHISING ON THE ASPIRATION FOR THE ATTAINMENT OF THE GREATER GOOD. P.2

Probably no commentary is needed here?

If only us humans could focus on being the best we can, in being humans, not in another life, but in this one; the one we are having and is certain of. If only we were able to not deceive ourselves into believing that the gods we have created, really requires anything of us, other than that we should live happily and pleasurably during the time allotted to us. Obvious as this might be to those of us who value our rationality, it is not so to others, and so the competition, instead of the cooperation, in most of what we do, continue.

And so we have political parties in each country, proclaiming that they are going to or are doing this and that for their supporters and their country, while they constantly differentiate between their values and policies. Thus implying their differences, with no mention of their commonalities, except at times of tragedies, when they might share their grief, and speak of how they all want the best for all, though they might have different approaches to achieving it.

Living is not a bed of roses, so we should also seek and cherish the good and beauty available to us.

So it is that there is this under-current that each political party, if it is lucky, will have a bite of managing or mismanaging the ship of state, the country, but that, like time, the country will always be the same; ebbing and flowing as does the sea, with sometimes harmless tides and at other times, devastating ones.

But, returning to the matter of the aspirations of most of us for a better world. It really is the case that the making of a better world begins in the family, the local community, the local tribe and/or ethnic group, the nation and country, and is then cascade over the world or parts of it. A tide is not generated from its outer reaches, but from its centre.  It is local conflicts starting and becoming regional conflicts which continue to obstruct the quest for a peaceful world.

Patriarchal societies, in which the tribal and/or religious leaders do the thinking and decision making for the people, do not foster or promote independent thinking and intellectual development. Arguably, in many of these kinds of societies, Adam and Eve have not been allowed to eat of the 'tree of knowledge', and the tribal and/or religious elders are still the arbiter of 'what is right and what is wrong.' With the people not being allowed to think, make their own decisions and accept responsibility for the consequences - human, and not man ascribed 'god consequences' - of their action.

To be continued

On way of humans bridging time and space, but our technology remains ahead of our capacity to attain peace and relative happiness for all.
