A THOUGHT FOR NOW - PRESIDENT OBAMA'S LEGACY: THE REBIRTH OF THE COLD WAR? PART.2

Following on from the success of the Iran Nuclear agreement, the President also acquired another success in precipitating what might now develop into the full 'normalisation of relations and trade between America and Cuba, after the lifting of, again, the unfair and unjust trade embargo on that country. This success is one which has a lot of strategic importance for America, since, while it will undoubtedly benefit the Cuban people in the material and social standards of their lives, it might weaken the influence of the socialism over the individual citizens.

It will also have the impact of weakening the solidarity between Cuba and the leftist regimes in the Americas.  As each country prioritise placing their own economies in a position where they are better able to meet the reasonable needs and aspirations of their citizen. With international solidarity taking second place. President Obama has also had valuable successes in realising at least some of his aspirations for positive action regarding  climate change.

Legacies are like building a home on an island; the bigger and more secure the island, the more endurable your home is likely to be from being destroyed.

So, President Obama succeeded in increasing or strengthening American hegemony over her southern hemisphere; without having to resort to the large-scale use of terror by America's friends in that region of the world.

However, President Obama, despite having been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the beginning of his presidency, apparently in expectation of him being able to make the world a more peaceful place, has markedly failed to do so. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, and the Middle East are all in as bad or a worse state of conflict than they were in, at the time of President Obama taking office in 2008.

President Obama, while being insistent on removing American troops from Afghanistan and Iraq - although there are reports of him having increased the contingents of US special forces in Iraq - has nullified some or all of successes he has achieved in these countries. By him joining with his British, French and Muslim countries 'coalition of the willing', to invade Yemen, Libya, and Syria. Resulting in these countries becoming disaster zones like Iraq, but with the added problem of instigating instability and conflict in surrounding countries, in the case of Libya.
