A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE SYRIA PROXY AND PROPAGANDA WAR AGAINST THE SYRIAN STATE AND RUSSIA.

After awhile, we no longer listen to the narrative, as we come to assume that we know it and agree or disagree with it. The narrative should reflect changes in the situation, which validate or invalidate the original narrative.

While hundreds of thousands of Syrian's, both innocent ones and combatants, are killed and maimed, and a great deal of the nation's infra-structure is destroyed during the on-going proxy war, the West continue to obscure what is really happening, by its relentless and shameless propaganda war against the Syrian Government and its foreign allies.

One of the most recent propaganda missile to be fired has been that fired by the United Nation's Humanitarian Chief, Mr Stephen O'Brien, citing his organisation's failure in stopping the fighting - not in Syria - but Aleppo. In doing so, and criticising the Russians and Syrian government, Mr O'Brian was supported by propa-salvos from the United States UN Ambassador, Ms Power, and her western European colleagues.

For both the discerning and the unwary reader and listener about what is happening in the Syria proxy war, nothing is straightforward or is as it might first appear to be. From the perspective of the west, the American and NATO governments want their people to believe, as a matter of faith, that the Syrian proxy war is about them helping the people of Syria to achieve 'democracy.' This, they might have argued, was to help the Syrian people to form a government by voting for the political party or parties which they prefer.

At least, this was probably the starting point of the Syria proxy war, because, after the current Syrian Government resisted the externally supported attempt by the Americans and NATO to overthrow it, what began as a peaceful but still a highly charged powerful opposition - because of the ethnic, religious and other undercurrents which were always part of the Middle East landscape - campaign for change, became an incendiary and bloody one.

Things were not turning out like the Americans and NATO countries expected or wanted.  They desired another Libya, but without the still 'headless chicken syndrome' which that country is still living.  Instead, what they got, in the form of the Syrian Government and the Syrians who support it, was an unyielding and implacable contender; fighting for its very survival.

And what was the West's, including the United Nations, response to that of the Syrian Government? Yes, probably what has always been its response to any country which tries to challenge its world view; it increased its supply of arms and other support to the rebels. It also enlisted the support of its Middle East ally (we no longer her of 'Friends of Syria' - regimes, and setup its own proxy armies to fight the Syrian Government. 

To probaby nobody's surprise, what was already a bloody conflict became even bloodier.  Far from making this an opportunity for it to appreciate the greater calamity which would ensue, if it continue to prioritise its self-interest geo-political objectives, at the cost of the unfolding human disaster which was unfolding, the Americans, the British, the French and their Arab and Muslim allies pressed their attack on the Syrian Government. 

At the same time, keeping to the same narrative about 'democracy' and the need to transfer power from the Government to the rebels.  Even though, at this stage, there was the white elephant in the room to contend with; namely that of which of the disparate rebel group or groupings they wanted to transfer power to.   As recently as this week, I heard the British Prime Minister referring to 'transition' in Syria. What we might call the 'broken record syndrome.'

How much more desirable it would be, if hands could be joined in peace, instead of the dead, 'friends and foes alike', should have to unknowingly 'rest in the peace' which none but the despairing desires?
