A THOUGHT FOR NOW - IS THE 'BREXIT VICTORY' ABOUT TO BECOME A PYRRHIC ONE FOR BRITAIN? P.1

And so has it become a daily refrain for the British Government of Theresa May, to declare that the British government will not "weasel out' of the "decision of the British people - though it be only half of the electorate who voted - to leave the European Union. And, not really believing their luck and their government's integrity, the Brexiteers do continue to make a loud noise in their demands for the government to act now, and begin the process of divorcing the European Union. 

 The Brexiteers are aware that, as the days go by, so might the evidence of the folly, their folly, of leaving the European Union and going it alone, become too obvious and burdensome, if not for them in their fervour, then probably for their government. Which might eventually lead to the government showing enough courage and wisdom to not putting the country under the guillotine, on the basis of a minority of the electorate voting for it to do so.

 The main purpose of getting the United Kingdom out of Europe, at least, in terms of its sovereignty, was to enable Britain to be 'governed by the British government and not the bureaucrats of Brussel,s who represents the European Union supra-government.

So, what will be the true cost of escaping instead of taming the EU bear?

The United Kingdom was meant to have a surplus of funds after it divorces the EU, but now, the British people are being told by their government that the divorce settlement and its impact on the United Kingdom's economy, will cost it billions of pounds. So, even before the British people, in general, and the Brexiteers, specifically, can have the pleasure of savouring their 'history win', they must suffer the cost of that 'win.' 
What is worse, of course, is the fact that, except for the advantages of 'Britain being ruled by her own ruling elites', as opposed to the European Government having the 'final veto', if you like, the Brexiteers, and, indeed, all the British people, will never know if the nation's act of cutting itself adrift from the mother ship, the SS European Union/Empire, will ever deliver the economic benefits it has been forecasting.

Indeed, one could recall a similar situation, when, in 1971, Britain's move to embrace the decimalisation system, how it was said that it would result in the lowering of prices, but never did.

 And so might we ask the question: Is Brexit likely to be a pyrrhic 'victory' for the Brexiteers and, indeed, all of the United Kingdom? It is clear that the Scots do not want to have to suffer the same uncertain and 'separatist' fate which a minority of the rest of the United Kingdom has brought upon themselves, but, will they be able to escape it. Can they, like the rest of the United Kingdom which did not vote for this divisive and perilous voyage, avoid having to be dragged along with the SS United Kingdom, in her search to discover new non-existent lands, trade routes and commercial agreements?

Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
