A THOUGHT FOR NOW - IS THE 'BREXIT VICTORY' ABOUT TO BECOME A PYRRHIC ONE FOR BRITAIN? THE END.

There clearly is a big risk that, not only will Britain not achieve much of the economic benefits its latter day government is professing that it will achieve, but she and her people are likely to have to pay a very heavy price for the folly of cutting the country adrift. It is, indeed, not by chance that the British Government of David Cameron did not want the United Kingdom to divorce the EU, knowing well that it would not be in the country's best interests. Irrespective of the fact that Theresa May's administration has now seen it as being expedient to argue the opposite case.

David Cameron's Government wanted to use the EU referendum as a subterfuge to place pressure on the EU, in order to get a better outcome in its negotiations for more favourable reform terms for Britain. But it did not expect that it would lose the Referendum and had its bluff called. Thus this terrible dilemma which the country is now in, and which its decision to leave the EU is causing in Europe and the world.

Of course, none of this is meant to be an unequivocal defence of the European Union, which, in its present form, seems to be providing a platform for right wing conservative bigots. Petty aspiring dictators who want to make this already unwieldy, bureaucratic and inefficient empire, even bigger. Who want to have their own army, not being satisfy with that of their Nato partner.

People who have turned the EU into a powerful champion of west-European hegemony over the world, including the Russian Federation and the Middle East.

And yet, because of its potential for being a vehicle for international cooperation and peaceful co-existence, I do support the European Union, and the case for it to undergo major reforms. So that it is more accountable to its constituent members and their electorate, and has effective safeguards against becoming, or remaining an enclave for illiberal and war-like politicians from its member states.

Is seems clear to me that, not only could the 'Brexit victory' result in a pyrrhic victory, economically, socially, diplomatically and politically for the United Kingdom, but also in a grave loss for  the European Union and the European security and cooperation project.

In effect, Britain's exist could be the beginning of each country looking out for itself, in its own pecular manner, and the likelihood of the European mainland returning to its pre-world Wars inter-state tensions and conflicts. And so, it is not only the United ~Kingdom, but also Europe, which will have to pay the high cost of this 'victory/defeat' and 'defeat/victory' anomalous post Brexit state of being, as we await and watch intervening developments which will add to the cost of Britain leaving the EU.
