A THOUGHT FOR NOW - THE MACHINATIONS OF THE 'ISLAMIC DEFENDERS' FRONT.' PART 1

The god brigade is at it again. This time, it is the so-called Islamic Defenders' Front, a bigoted Islamic organisation in Indonesia, led by one Rizieq Shihab, which is at it. It is trying to get the Indonesian Government to arrest and put on trial the Governor of Jakarta, Mr  Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who happens to be a Christian. His alleged crime being that he has insulted the Quran, and is, ipso facto, being accused of that dreaded myth, 'blasphemy.'

Needless to say that I do not believe in the concept or practice of 'blasphemy', probably because I am fortunate enough to live in an enlightened country in which you are allowed to curse the gods, and, even more, those who seek to ride the gods and their, man-made religions, to political power.

But not so for Mr Purnaman, whom the gods have fated to be born and live in Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country on the earth. It has been his misfortune to be a Christian in such a country. Probably having all of his every word being analysed and weighed up by his religious and political detractors and enemies, for anything which could be construed or misconstrued as 'anti-Islam', 'anti-Quran' and 'anti-Muslim.'

Wish to the gods that humans would see and observe the wisdom of leaving the gods to their own 'godly devises', and get on with the business of being humans who are only answerable to other humans, on behalf of humans, and not on behalf of the gods. 

Because, what do we or any of the so-called 'faithful' know or can know about the gods? Nothing; unless we are willing to let it be known that the gods are the creation of our ancestors.

Anybody who claim to speak on behalf of the gods are lying. And, as for Mr Shihab and his Islamic Defenders' Front, I say this to you, sir, let Islam defend itself, because, if it, and or any other religion is worthy of being defended, then let them and their all powerful gods which they profess to serve, defend themselves.

Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
