THE SYRIAN PROXY WAR AND PRESIDENT OBAMA'S AILING LEGACY; HISTORY IS NOT AN IMPARTIAL JUDGE! PART 3

To the observer, the 'left' and the 'right' route is dependent on whether you positioning, as you approach the bridge.

Its, America's, strategy has helped to make the problem of governing Syria and achieving the 'democratic model' of government which is the purported objective of the formerly progressive advocates wanting it, much more difficult to achieve.

Normally, when faced with a situation of having to choose between the option which is most likely to result in more stability of the situation, and the desire to forward the interests of 'democracy and individual freedom', the west has been known to opt for the former more 'pragmatic' option, instead of the more idealised one.

For whatever reason, this has not been evident in how the West has dealt with the Iraq, Libya and Syria challenges. In fact, it is very obvious that the model they have been following, is that of sacrificing whatever little stability there is, in these countries, in their endeavour to try to achieve the still unobtainable ideals of 'democracy' and greater individual and personal freedoms for their citizens.

It is clear that you cannot achieve the and maintain the latter, where there is no personal safety and national security. So, why this approach, which is invariably resulting in the people of these countries loosing what little they have, because of the attempts of the political and other elites desires to further their own political and social causes and interests?

Irrespective of America's and the enlightened West's idealised vision of the world, it does seem to be the case that, people's first objective in living their lives is that of achieving economic freedom and independence from the forces of poverty, poor health and economic hardship. They aspire to have a viable and not oppressive means of ensuring their livelihood. To be able to put food in their family's bellies and clothes on their back. To be able to have a decent roof over their heads and live a reasonably good life.

This is what it really boils down to for the masses. It is not so much about 'political freedom', and the realisation of a concept called 'democracy.' Which is more of the objective for those who have achieved freedom from basic economic needs/wants, and can now focus on what could be characterised as the more aesthetic aspirations of an enlightened life-style.  It benefits nobody to have 'freedom' and 'democracy' but no viable livelihood.

This is why there are hundreds of thousands of migrants and aspiring migrants taking life-threatening risks to leave their home countries to try to move to prosperous Europe and America. It is why America is so preoccupied with keeping them out and getting rid of those who are there illegally. It is economics which is the driving force of the poor, and not the quest or appeal for 'democracy', which the West continues to try to export and proffer as a panacea for the all or much of the problems affecting poor countries.

To be continued.
