UNITED STATES PROPOSAL FOR FUTURE OF ISRAEL AND PALESTINE. PART 2

With neither the god of the Jewish people or the god of the Muslim people having been able to bring peace to them, I wonder whether they might have had greater success, if they were have gods of stone?

Well, as I noted earlier, John Kerry has not said anything which a reasonable person would find just cause to challenge. What is new is that it is the Secretary of State of the United States saying it, and
doing so on behalf of that country.  The longest and most steadfast and unequivocal friend and protector of the state of Israel.

Probably in the hope, even if mistakenly so, that the government of Israel might demonstrate the humility and prudence to hear and accept the truth, which it needs to be told, from her friend, while she continues to ignore the protestation and beseeching of others, whom she might perceive as her enemies.

And what has been the reaction of the Government of Israel and its unconditional defenders? Well, The impending Don President is being consistent, in his condemnation of what he sees as the Obama Administration's betrayal and disrespecting of 'poor Israel', which is far from being the case.

As the government of Israel need to display a level of accountability and responsibility which is commensurate to the power it is wieldling in its conflict with the Palestinians, and in the Middle East. And not continue to make and interpret the law in Israel's favour, and leave the United States to cover its back, irrespective of what it does. It is not in Israel's or any other state's best interest for it not be be held accountable for its actions and omissions, irrespective of their impact on others.

Similarly, we have one Israeli commentator already describing John Kerry's speech as evidence that he is living in, in effect, an ideal world and not dealing with  reality. Which begs the question: 'have the government and people of Israel stopped dreaming of peace and a just settlement with their Palestinian and Arab neighbours? Have they consigned themselves to inhabiting a space and time of permanent tension, conflict and regular episodes of bloody and destructive war?

Have they become so used to occupying the gravitational space between the destructive force of 'planet war' and  the productive forces of 'planet peace'?

Have they given up on the hope of which John Kerry has so articulately expounded, although he knows that, for this hope to be realised, it must be built by the hands and brains, the joint endeavour of Palestinians and Israelis?

And what of Prime Minister Netanyahu; how has he reacted to John Kerry's speech and proposals? Well, in a nutshell, he told John Kerry that Israel does not need to be lectured by outsiders. Here, BN could have added, '.. especially when they will be out of office on 20th January 2017, when his good friend, The Don President, will try to give the SOI all it wants. Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that Israel will resolve her conflict with the Palestinians through direct negotiations with the Palestinians, as it had done with Jordan and Egypt.

He convenient omitted to explain that both Egypt and Jordan were and are sovereign countries, which is not the case with the Palestinians, who  are an occupied people. He might also have explained why the State of Israel has and is still failing to reach this settlement with the Palestinians - after what he said has been a hundred years of Palestinian terrorism against Jewish people.

To be continued.
