For those of us who might be inclined to see PE Donald Trump as a version of President Putin, in his, let us say, purported autocratic style of running his incoming Presidential Administration, we should not lose sight of the fact that President Putin is an astute and accomplished politician and world leader. Donald Trump might have some of PP's apparently autocratic style of ruling, but he, DT, seems to lack the political intellect, statesmanship and diplomacy which enables President Putin to be the effective leader he is. 

Donald Trump, sadly, and despite his popularity amongst his supporters and the destitute and desolate Americans, who are hoping that he will bring them respite or relief from their plight, is probably more akin to the North Korean President, Kim Jung-un, and the President of the Philippines, Rodergo Duerte. 

In other words, Donald Trump appears to be not only unorthodox, but to have the appearance of being a renegade. Which is not to say some of his ideas or actions will not have a positive and welcomed effect on  the ossified and suffocating status quo of national and international policies and systems which are preventing the advancement of better relations between countries and peoples all over the world.

As we await the enthronement of the new Emperor of the United States, it seems that we are doing so, more in great apprehension than in the hope of a better America and a better world. This is the opposite of the feeling many of us had on the enthronement of the nearly now previous Emperor, Barak Obama. Obama had not lived up to the expectation millions of us had of him. 

In fact, he had disappointed us. At best, it seems, we must hope that The Don will pleasantly surprise us. But, if it is to be the worse, let us hope that the cost for the world and us humans, will not too much greater than the cost of Obama disappointing us. After all, it really is the case that, part of the cost of Obama's failure is the enthronement of The Don.

 As we look forward to what The Don's enthronement will bring us, we the people have been here before. Where we choose this and that person to rule over us, as we, somewhat like children, seem to have so little control over our fate. And, though our leaders change, the better world that we all dream of, never comes any closer, and even when it does, it seems not to endure, because our leaders change, and change it. 
Is it that we the people have been bought of with a dream, while our stark realities continue to oppress us, and the elites, from whom our leaders arise, live the reality of the dream they have sold us, but which is outside of our grasp?

Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
