.JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON STATES OF BEING. HAPPY. THE END!

Happiness, therefore, is a desirable state of being, which probably most, if not all humans aspire toward achieving. Indeed, there are some indications that it is not only us humans who experience feelings of 'happiness'.

It would seem to me that probably many animals are able to display manifestations which might be considered as indicating pleasant or happy feelings. Probably foremost amongst these are dogs, cats, monkeys and chimpanzee, goats, lambs, some birds, et al.

We might even assume that, all animals which have their needs satiated could be considered as being in a state of 'happiness.'

We could probably presume that all humans who are generally satisfied with and have made a good adjustment to their daily routines, doing whatever they are doing, could be described as living a happy life

Living a happy life and experiencing happiness, however, does not mean that we necessarily have to be doing good and upright or enlightened activities or pursuits.

It is one of the ironies or paradoxes of human societies, that some of us enjoy doing harm to other humans, not because we are always forced to do so, such as in times of military conflicts.

Of course, there are times when we might be, let us say, enjoying or getting positive feelings from doing our work, but not giving any or too much thought to what use the products of our labour is being put to, or will be applied to. As might be the case with some people employed in the armament industries.

And even when there is an awareness of our role in industries with the specific purpose of inflicting harm on other people, we humans have the capacity to rationalise away the unhappy mental conflict it might cause us, or go into denial. We can see this happening in, for example, the law enforcement and penal industries.

Our capacity to compartmentalise or separate the means from the ends, and the process from the end product, when we choose to do so, can enable us to maintain the tranquility from which happiness is maintained.

This suggest to me that, our worldview, our particularistic way of perceiving the world, how we receive, interact with, process and make sense of the stimuli impacting on our receptive cells, is probably a major factor in determining and maintaining our relative state of 'happiness' or 'unhappiness.'

Happiness, it seems, can be both an objective and a subjective state of being. It is factor of our external worlds and our internal cognitive processes, and the extent to which the product of the two result in the predominance of tranquil mood, in an enduring or stable manner.

To this extent, happiness, or being happy, are no more than 'normal' or regular human - and arguably, animal - states of being. The acquisition of which, I would argue, should be the primary purpose and motivation for our, human existence.
