FRENCH ELECTIONS - WHO WILL THE POLITICIANS AND ELECTORATE BLAME? PART 5.

The impression that she is no longer a 'right wing nationalist', whose unspoken message is that of 'France for the White French.' A message that France should now close her gates to the immigrants, especially the Muslim immigrants and migrants who are gathering on her borders and inside the country. Who are perceived as creating a latent threat for France's future.

 That France is currently experiencing serious social unrest resulting from complaints of police brutality - compare with similar situation in the United States - might actually reinforce the perception of 'France and the French being under attacked by outside forces.' Be it the forces of Islamic extremism, or immigrants and migrants and refugees wanting to move to the country. 

The mindset of many on the right of the political spectrum, and the populists, is likely to be such that they will be in no mood to ponder France's role, historically and more recently, in bringing about this situation on herself and her people.

 They might not be interested in being reminded that France and the French have, for centuries, been given to revolting against what different sections of her population perceive to be threats to their lives, livelihoods and their dignity.

 France's political right might be feeling encouraged by what they perceive as the gains of the right in Britain and the United States.

However, the lesson which many people are taking from Brexit and Donald Trump's victory in the USA is the wrong one. The British government and the Trump administration are yet to prove that they are not going to lead their people into the desolate wilderness, and get them 'lost.' 

 The 'success' of the Brexiteers and the Trumpists are examples of the fact that 'protest or populist victories', are simply that, 'victories' in the electoral process, and not that the ideas and principles propagated by these proponents,  do not work.

Diplomacy ought to be the process by which nations, through their governments, establish and maintain mutually beneficial and peaceful relationships between them; Diplomacy is not, like the Gulf Cooperation Council members and their allies, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE states, trying to bully and intimidate Qatar into doing their bidding, by surrendering its sovereignty.  Neither is diplomacy what the American government is doing, in using sanctions to force the governments of states of Iran, Russia and North Korea, into complying with its demands.  About what action they should or should not take in pursuing what they consider to be in the interest of their countries and people.  No, none of this is diplomacy. Rather it is method of force and compulsion, which is not synonymous with principle or practice of diplomacy.  Which is about the art of establishing and maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between different countries.
